What is the content that people are most “supporting” right now? Overwhelming support for Nakahara Chuuya from “Bungo Stray Dogs”! In fact, many people are saying “I want to make a Ita bag” [Anime! Anime! “Supporting” Investigation Team]

In recent years, the activity of supporting your favorite characters or works, known as “oshikatsu,” has been gaining attention. There are probably many “Anime! Anime!” readers who are actively involved in “oshikatsu” by participating in events and purchasing merchandise.

So this time we conducted a survey on “oshikatsu.” This article summarizes the results across borders on anime, manga, games, VTubers, and more, and we received responses from 219 people during the survey period from September 5th to September 12th. There were
27 men, 141 women, and 23 people who did not answer, with more women than men. In terms of age, 120 people were under 19 years old and 24 people in their 20s, making the majority of the respondents younger than average.

Below are some excerpts from the responses we received!

This time, we have prepared a question that can be answered freely regardless of genre, such as anime, games, novels, voice actors, VTubers, etc.: “What content are you most into right now?”

The genres that received the most responses to this question were anime and manga, with the title “Bungo Stray Dogs” receiving the most votes. This was followed by boys’ manga such as “My Hero Academia,” “Haikyu!!,” “Blue Lock,” and “Detective Conan,” which received strong support.

Other popular groups include the game commentator group “Colorful Peach,” the VTuber group Nijisanji, and the idol group SnowMan. Comments such as “Because I watch all of their videos,” and “They’re the first VTuber group I’ve ever liked” were collected.

And when it came to voice actors, male voice actors such as Miyano Mamoru, Kamiya Hiroshi, Uchiyama Kouki, and Taniyama Kisho won the majority of votes. Overall, the reasons given were “great acting and singing skills,” “because he cares about his fans a lot,” and “this is the first 3D guy I’ve fallen in love with.”

A more in-depth question that received a lot of responses was, “If you have a specific person or character that you’re supporting, please tell us the character’s name.”

In the case of “Bungo Stray Dogs”, Nakahara Chuuya was overwhelmingly chosen. Multiple votes were given for the reason that “I fell in love with him because he’s cool and somehow cute.”
Dazai Osamu also received more votes than the character, with some commenting that “he’s a genius with a sexy mind.”

Katsuki Bakugo and Izuku Midoriya are popular characters in “My Hero Academia.” Eijiro Kirishima was also praised for his “cool manliness.”

The most popular character from “Haikyu!!” was Kozume Kenma, with comments such as “I love the contrast between the cute and occasional Shoyo and the way Kenma laughs when he talks, and his pudding-shaped hair.”
Tsukishima Kei also received many votes because “he has many episodes and famous quotes that serve as guidelines for life.”

Among the works mentioned above, the most recently animated “Blue Lock” features Hachiraku Mawari, who has been popular. “I love the gap between her personality, past, face, and voice… I love everything about her,” one enthusiastic commenter said.

And in the “Detective Conan” movie series, which gets a lot of attention every year, Hattori Heiji, who played the main character in “One Million Dollar Star”, is popular. “I was already a fan, but this year’s movie made me fall in love with him even more ,” says many people, who seem to have rediscovered his charm.

In a question asking how they support their favorite content, characters, or people, the majority answered “I buy merchandise.” Since merchandise is sold regardless of content, it could be said that this applied to almost all answers.
Furthermore, there were comments such as, “I’ve started buying apparel that I hadn’t bought before,” “My purchases increase when I participate in collaboration events,” and “I even buy things that the character is modeled after,” so it seems that the fact that people buy more merchandise when they support their favorite content is the same for all content.

Of course, many people also mentioned actions such as “watching anime,” “reading manga,” “playing games,” and “drawing .” There were also mentions of specific actions such as “watching streams to increase the number of viewers” and “increasing the number of views of videos.”

We also asked about their ideal form for supporting their idols and what they would like to try. Here are some of the things they said that made them think, “Actually…”

The most common response was “I want to make a Ita bag .” Ita bag making is a little difficult because it requires attaching a lot of badges and decorative parts, but it is also true that it is an action that allows you to show off your favorite idol in a big way. The desire to make Ita bags seems to be endless in all content.

The next most popular responses were “I want to go to a live concert” and “I want to participate in an event .” These responses were mainly from people living in rural areas, and many of them said that it was something they aspired to do because it was difficult to travel from far away to events in Tokyo.

Other comments included, “I want to cosplay, but I don’t have the stamina…” and “I want to make a pilgrimage to the holy land.” There were also comments overflowing with a sense of mission, such as , “I want to support my idol and let people who don’t know about him know how great he is,” which shows the breadth of what it means to be an idol.

Here are the most popular ones based on the feedback we received. Where did your favourite come in?
