The first exhibition event where you can relive the story and worldview of the movie “Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe” will be held at Shinsaibashi PARCO. “Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe ~Reminiscence Exhibition~” will be held from November 22 to December 8, 2024. Advance tickets are currently on sale at ePlus.
The completely new film “Kitaro Birth: The Mystery of Gegege,” a commemorative work for the 100th anniversary of the birth of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, is a feature-length film based on the sixth season of the TV anime and depicts the origin story of the series surrounding the birth of Kitaro. It depicts the encounter between Kitaro’s father, the former Medama Oyaji, and the human Mizuki, and the fate that the two face, and won the Excellence in Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Awards.
A special edition of the film, “The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of Gegege – The Real Version,” which brushes up the visuals and sound of the film, has been released since October 4th. The real version includes 327 retakes of scenes, and brings back the horror scenes that were envisioned in the storyboards. The sound was also redubbed to express “the horror story that the production team originally envisioned.”
Now, the first exhibition event where you can relive the story and worldview of this work, “The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of Gegege – Reminiscence Exhibition”, will be held at Shinsaibashi PARCO.
It is an immersive exhibition event where you can enter the worldview and enjoy the behind-the-scenes production of the art settings such as characters, storyboards, and reproductions of original drawings. As you follow the story, there are many photo spots where you can take photos pretending to be the characters, as well as reproductions of art.
In addition, tickets with a completely recorded audio guide will be on sale. You can listen to the exhibition guide in a special audio that can only be heard at this event, by Kitaro’s father (voice: Toshihiko Seki) and Mizuki (voice: Hidenobu Kiuchi). You can choose your favorite version from the two versions in which each person gives the main guide.
As an admission bonus, all paying visitors will receive a sticker, chosen at random from two types. The design is a newly drawn visual by the work’s character designer, Toru Yatabe, as well as a different newly drawn secret illustration.
In addition, if you are a member of Parco’s service “Parco Members”, you can get a “I went to the ‘Kitaro Birth Gegege Mystery ~Reminiscence Exhibition~’ can badge”. Show the applicable screen at the merchandise corner in the venue to get it.
A large number of goods commemorating the event will be sold at the venue, including acrylic dioramas, tin badge sets, magic clear files, and pouches, all of which feature the event’s visuals.
Other unique items on offer include glitter keychains designed in the style of the “Blood Product M” that appears in the film, memorable cream soda-style earrings, and a “Tomoshibi” matchbox-style mini pouch.
Other items include an Imperial Blood Bank ballpoint pen, Ura Kido talisman-style notepads, and random acrylic key chains using original artwork, making this a must-see lineup for fans as it is packed with goods that will allow you to immerse yourself in the world of the series.
Additionally, high-definition framed art of the event visuals and canvas art of original drawings (revised by the chief animation director) will also be available for purchase as made-to-order items.
