The results of a character popularity poll for the light novel “My Neighbor, Arya-san, Who Sometimes Whispers in Russian,” have been announced. The contest was run by the general e-book store BOOK☆WALKER, and the characters that came in first and second will be the protagonists of an original short story.
“My Neighbor, Arya-san, Who Sometimes Whimsically Speaks Russian” is a youthful romantic comedy about the Russian high school girl, Arya, who is sweet in Russian, and the protagonist, Masachika Kuze, who has native-level Russian listening skills. The original work by Sansan SUN has been published up to volume 8 by “KADOKAWA Sneaker Bunko”, and the original illustrations are by Momoko.
The original work, commonly known as “Rosider”, became popular and the TV anime began airing in July 2024. Sumire Uesaka plays the role of Aarya and Kohei Amasaki plays the role of Masachika, both of whom are reprising their roles from the original PV. This work is also a hot topic for its “changing ending theme song and video every episode.”
To commemorate the start of the TV anime broadcast, a character popularity poll was held on “BOOK☆WALKER” in July, where readers could vote for their favorite character out of 13 characters, up to one vote per person.
The characters that came in first and second will be the main characters of “My Neighbor, Arya-san, Who Sometimes Whispers in Russian: Behind the Scenes,” scheduled for release in 2025, and the “BOOK☆WALKER Exclusive Author’s Original Short Story” in the 10th volume. It was a rare opportunity for readers and fans to decide for themselves who would be the main character of a story that could only be read here.
The results were announced just as the TV anime was about to reach its final episode.
Beating out the main heroine, Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo (Arya), the winner was protagonist Masachika’s childhood friend, Suou Yuki. Yuki will be the protagonist of a short story exclusive to BOOK☆WALKER for “My Neighbor, Arya-san, Who Sometimes Whispers in Russian: Behind the Scenes.”
Born into a former aristocratic family, she is a well-behaved student who is also known as a model lady, but she also shows an unexpected side to her childhood friend, Masachika, which makes her a charming character.
Coming in second place was Aarya. This will be featured in a newly written short story exclusive to the 10th volume of “BOOK☆WALKER”.
We look forward to seeing new sides to this top student who is nicknamed the “lonely princess” by those around her, with her cute behavior teasing Masachika in Russian, and her good looks and excellent grades.
And in third place, who sadly missed out on the chance to be the main character, was Maria Mikhailovna Kujo (Masha). She is one year older than Arya and serves as the secretary of the student council. Her exceptional proportions and gentle beauty make her very popular at school, earning her the nickname “The Virgin Mary of the School.”
In fourth place was Ayano Kimijima, in fifth place was Masachika Kuze, and in sixth place was Erina Narahashi. Their comments after receiving their rankings are also worth a read.
Other results were as follows: 7th place Miyamae Nonoa, 8th place Kiryuin Sumire, 9th place Kiyomiya Hikaru, 10th place Taniyama Sayaka, 11th place Sarashina Chisaki, 12th place Kenzaki Touya, and 13th place Maruyama Tsuyoshi.
The final episode of the TV anime “My Neighbor, Arya-san, Who Sometimes Whispers in Russian,” is currently being broadcast on TOKYO MX and other stations. The bonus short stories of the 1st and 2nd place winners, Arya and Yuki Suo, are scheduled to be distributed on “BOOK☆WALKER” in 2025.
Thank you for all the votes for the first official popularity poll for Rosider.
Until now, Aarya had maintained the number one spot in the popularity rankings here and there, but perhaps due to the effect of the anime, she has handed over the top spot to Yuki this time. As the original author, it may be disappointing that the main heroine did not get first place, but… well, I guess it can’t be helped. It can’t be helped if it’s Yuki. She’s already in a sneaky position of being a rich girl, an otaku friend, a real sister, a little devil, an angel, a rival, and a final boss, and she’s the most comedic character in the story… and when the voice and movements are added to that in the anime, her crazy personality stands out and you can’t help but like her. Do your best next time, Aarya. It’ll be fine. All you need to do is win before the election, just win before the election!
Masachika… yeah, he’s great. It’s great that he’s in that position as a man. It’s great and I’m grateful. As the original author, I’m very happy that the male protagonist is so popular.
By the way, why is Elena-senpai so highly ranked even though she has only appeared in two volumes? You are the most unexpected.
