September, known as the “autumn of the arts,” is now in the middle of the month, and the Silver Week is finally upon us! How about enjoying the original artwork of manga artists and creators during the holidays?
In this article, we have picked out some recommended art books and exhibition events. Please use this as a reference when deciding how to spend your long weekend.
Mutsumi Inomata began working as an animator in the late 1970s and worked on character design for a variety of games and anime. He passed away in March 2024, and many fans have expressed their sadness at his passing.
The book we are featuring this time, “Sanctuary: Mutsumi Inomata’s 40th Anniversary Art Book,” is a chronicle-like collection of carefully selected works that looks back on Mutsumi Inomata’s career as an artist, from an archive of over 2,000 pieces published in various fields such as anime, games, novels, and magazines.
His works over the course of 40 years of activity, including “Leda: The Legend of War”, “Continent of the Wind”, “Space Prince”, “Future GPX Cyber Formula”, “Plawres Sanshiro”, “Brain Powered”, and the “Tales of” series, are masterpieces that reflect the history of Japanese entertainment. Please enjoy this monumental book that traces the trajectory of Mutsumi Inomata, who has created wonderful characters in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction, during the holidays.
“Sanctuary Mutsumi Inomata 40th Anniversary Art Book” is on sale now for 3,700 yen (excluding tax). The size is A4 format (277mm x 210mm) and is a large volume of 256 pages.
“Selected Works of Moyoco Anno: Playboy Apartment Complex/Wearing a Dress Called Fat” is the second in a series of collections commemorating the 35th anniversary of manga artist Moyoco Anno’s debut.
This book contains four stories that deal with the “essence” of human beings, reproduced in color as they were serialized. You will find yourself thinking, “Has there ever been a manga that so clearly brings to light the inner lives of women?”
In addition to the noteworthy work “Playboy Danchi,” which is being published in book form for the first time, this is a collection of “scary women” masterpieces including “Chameleon Army” and “Ferris Wheel.” The cover design is by Itia Oshima.
“Anno Moyoco Anthology: Playboy Danchi/Wearing a Dress Called Fat” is on sale now for 2,310 yen (tax included). It is A5 size, paperback, and has 456 pages. The first limited edition includes a “special clear card,” so be sure to buy it soon. The first volume of
the anthology, “Sakuran,” published in June, is now available in digital format.
“The World of Buichi Terasawa ARTWORKS 1955-2023” is now on sale, fully conveying the charm of Buichi Terasawa, who has dominated the manga world as a unique figure since his debut in 1978.
This book looks back on the work of the genius Buichi Terasawa through illustrations of heroes such as “Cobra,” “BLACK KNIGHT Bat,” “Goku,” “Kabuto Tengu,” and “Takeru.”
Not only does it contain a selection of color illustrations and manuscripts, but it also contains the first-ever published line drawings for CG illustrations and unpublished early short stories from his debut. Don’t miss the unused name of “Cobra” and sketches of new ideas.

「LOVELY GIRLS MIURA MITSURU ILLUSTRATIONS」は、1972年、高校在学中に週刊少年ジャンプにてヤングジャンプ賞応募作『世にも不幸な男の話』でデビューしたマンガ家・三浦みつる自選画集。
『The（ハートマーク）かぼちゃワイン』のエルをはじめとした、清楚にして可憐で美麗なヒロインが満載の1冊になっている。
また、本書は刊行にあたり、ちばてつや、里中満智子、森川ジョージ、松谷孝征（手塚プロダクション代表取締役社長）の豪華メンバーから推薦コメントも寄せられた画集でもある。自作解説と作品リストや初公開のアイディアノートなど資料も掲載した充実の内容はファン必携だ。
「LOVELY GIRLS MIURA MITSURU ILLUSTRATIONS」は、定価4,070円（税込）で発売中だ。
シルバーウィーク期間は画集だけでなく、展示イベントにもぜひ足を運んでほしい。
まず紹介するのは、『ポケモンカードゲーム』のイラストや『約束のネバーランド』の連載などで知られるイラストレーター・出水ぽすかのリアル個展「出水ぽすか企画展 Oceanic Tranquility Art Exhibition」だ。
本展では、出水ぽすか氏がこれまでの活動で描きためてきたオリジナル作品が展示されている。企画展タイトルにもあるように、“Oceanic Tranquility”＝「海洋の静けさ」という意味通り出水ならではのダイナミックさと繊細さ、明るさだけでなく、特有の暗さも表現した作品が空間を埋め尽くしている。
さらに、展示作品を元にした「複製原画」「グラス」「ポストカード」「ZINE」など約30種のオリジナルグッズも販売されている。
「出水ぽすか企画展 Oceanic Tranquility Art Exhibition」は、9月30日まで銀座蔦屋書店（GINZA SIX 6F）にて開催中。開館時間は、10時30分～21時となっている。
『A3!』『東京カラーソニック!!』のキャラクターデザインなどで知られるイラストレーター・冨士原良が、画業15周年と3冊目の画集発売に合わせて初個展「COUTURE」を開催。
個展開催にあたって、冨士原良がこだわりを持って描いたファッションに焦点を当て、新作を描きおろし。「COUTURE」をテーマにファッションを纏う人物の外面、そこからにじみ出る内面の二つの側面に目を向け、冨士原良の解釈で新たなイラストが生まれている。
本展では刺繍アートや布への印刷など、この個展のために考え抜かれた手法を用い、制作した作品を展示。加えて、個展限定グッズ、サイン入り画集の販売やサイン会も行われる。
またさまざまな「サステナブルコラボ」を展開するほか、TSIホールディングスのブランド「MANASTASH（マナスタッシュ）」との協業による限定Tシャツが発売。
さらに、アパレルの製造工程で出てしまう端切れをアクリルに封入し、キーホルダーに再利用した「アップサイクルアクリルキーホルダー」といったアイテムも登場。黒のレースが使用されており、アクリルを切り出した位置によって全て模様が違う1点ものとなっている。
冨士原良 個展「COUTURE」は、9月16日まで「SHIBUYA109渋谷店 地下1階DISP!!!」にて開催中。開館時間は10時～21時で、入場無料だ。
「博 漫画家デビュー15周年記念『明日ちゃんのセーラー服』原画展」は、2009年に『アクアリウム』でマンガ家デビューを果たした博による『明日ちゃんのセーラー服』の展示イベント。
会場では、モノクロ、カラーを含む合計300枚以上の原画が展示される。
キービジュアルは本原画展のために描き下ろし。「中間服」「夏服」「冬服」からなるそれぞれのセーラー服を着用した、躍動感あふれる明日ちゃんの姿は必見だ。コマ割りなしでキャラクターの動きを表現する連続絵など斬新な表現を現実のものとした、圧倒的な画力を直で味わえる。
そのほか、原画展のオリジナルグッズも多数発売予定。作画資料として作画資料として実際に製作されたセーラー服や蠟梅学園の制服の展示など、『明日ちゃんのセーラー服』の全てがつまった展示会になっている。
「博 漫画家デビュー15周年記念『明日ちゃんのセーラー服』原画展」は、10月11日～10月27日の期間で有楽町マルイ8F イベントスペース「SPACE 7・8」にて11時～20時で開催。前売り券は10月10日までイープラスにて1,800円（税込）で販売中だ。
『だがしかし』『よふかしのうた』などアニメ化もされた人気作品を生み出しているマンガ家・コトヤマが画業10周年を迎えたことを記念して、未収録作品や多数のイラストと共に、10年の軌跡を辿るイマーシブな企画展「画業 10 周年記念 コトヤマ展」を開催。
ティザービジュアルには七草ナズナ、枝垂ほたるが登場。またコトヤマ直筆サインが、そのままイベントロゴになっている。
会場ではオリジナルTシャツや、描きおろしイラストを使ったアクリルスタンドなど、多数販売されるイベント限定商品も要チェックだ。
「画業 10 周年記念 コトヤマ展」は、10月6日まで池袋・サンシャイン60展望台 イベントスペースにて開催中。入場料は前売券が1,800円（税込）、当日券が2,000円（税込）となっている。
「画業40周年記念 清水玲子原画展」は、マンガ家・清水玲子の画業40周年を記念した同氏初の原画展。過去に東京・大阪で好評を博した展示が、福岡と鹿児島でも開催される。
本展では様々な作品から厳選したカラー原画を中心に、今回が初出しとなるデビュー前のスケッチやラフ画なども公開。
80年代に描かれたヒューマノイドSF『ジャック&エレナシリーズ』、人間と「人魚族」との恋を描いた『月の子 MOON CHILD』、クローン技術・人類を滅ぼす病原体など現代にも通じる問題を扱った『輝夜姫』（第47回小学館漫画賞）、“死者が生前に「見ていた」記憶を映像化できる”という設定で描き、現代の世相や社会問題に切り込んだ『秘密 -トップ・シークレット-』（第15回文化庁メディア芸術祭優秀賞）など、時代を超えて支持されている作品の原画が多数展示されている。
また、会場では直筆サイン入り複製画やクリアファイル、ポストカードなどをはじめとしたさまざまなオリジナルグッズが販売。美麗で繊細、世界観にあふれた数多くの原画を、展示やグッズで存分に堪能できる。
さらに、福岡会場ではディッパーダン キャナルオーパ店にてコラボカフェが開催中だ。「ムーン・レモンティーソーダ」を注文すると、オリジナルコースターがランダムで1枚もらえる。
鹿児島会場は長島美術館内のカフェにて開催されることが決定しており、続報は今後発表。9月21日から始まる会期をお楽しみに。
「画業40周年記念 清水玲子原画展」福岡会場は、9月16日まで博多マルイ 7Fイベントスペースにて開催中。チケット価格は1,800円（税込）で、入場特典として本展用に描き下ろされたキービジュアルの「しおり」「ビジュアルチケット」がプレゼントされる。しおり裏面に掲載された、開催に向けて寄せられた清水玲子からのメッセージは必見だ。
一方、鹿児島会場は9月21日～10月6日の期間で長島美術館にて開催。チケット価格は大人1,500円（前売り1,200円）、中高生800円（前売り600円）となっている。
