A self-produced reading drama “Voice Narration: The Story of Yukizakura Flower” by voice actress Matsutani Henri, known for his roles as Matsumoto Rangiku in “BLEACH” and Diana Caprice in “Sakura Wars: New York”, will be made into a DVD and released on December 26, 2024. In addition to Matsutani, Shimamoto Sumi, Ono Daisuke, Hirakawa Daisuke and others appear, and the two-disc set contains recordings of both performances held on June 24 and 25, 2023.
“Yukishusu” refers to a god-like being that governs the land and nature, such as weaving and sericulture. “Voice Narration: The Story of Yukishusu Flowers” is a two-chapter recitation drama woven with Yukishusu’s narration. The first chapter is set in a snowy mountain village where weaving is popular, long ago, and Saki, born into a wealthy family as the daughter of a textile wholesaler, is at the mercy of fate, but lives her life to the fullest with the love and protection of many people.
In the second chapter, which moves the stage to the present day, Saki’s reincarnation, Misaki, who grew up in a single-parent household and dreams of studying to be a designer in New York, overcomes many difficulties and struggles to make her dream come true, and blossoms. The audio drama version that was miraculously created when the 2020 performance was postponed indefinitely has been released on CD, and this DVD contains the performance that was held in June 2023 with great anticipation.
The cast includes Shimamoto Sumi as Yukiko, along with Ono Daisuke, Matsutani Kaname, Hirakawa Daisuke, Morohoshi Sumire, Suganuma Hisayoshi, Nakata Joji, Ando Mabuki, Kumagai Megumi, Sakurazaki Chiyo, Nagai Masaki, Esaki Taisuke (the kanji for 崎 is pronounced “tatsusaki”; same below), Kato Kazumasa, Yamada Ume, Seki Yasuko, and Wakisaka Haruna. Tetsuo will also be performing as a voice, while Furuya Michiru, Sumoto Daisuke, Kamibayashi Minami, and Machida Taisei will take turns giving introductory speeches. Another highlight is seeing Ono and Hirakawa take turns playing the roles of Yuta and Seiji in the performances on the 24th and 25th.
With the release of the drama reading version on DVD, producer Matsutani commented, “We received many lyrical impressions from the audience who were touched by the passionate performances of the performers. I myself was moved every time I was in the wings of the stage. The entire stage shone as if it was protected by God,” and “I hope that those who were unable to see the play will be moved in a new way, and those who did will have their feelings rekindled.
