On Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 6pm onwards, ABEMA aired the special program “5th Anniversary Voice Actors’ Night Out 28-Hour TV Thanksgiving Festival ~Say You Thank You~” (hereinafter referred to as “Voice Actors 28-Hour TV”) for 28 hours.

On the first day, September 22nd (Sunday), from around 8:50pm, “Anime Love Galore! One-Night Only Special Discussion Namikawa Daisuke x ROLAND” was broadcast. Namikawa’s dream conversation with ROLAND, someone he looks up to, came true, and they had a deep conversation about their love for anime, failures in life, the struggles of being a businessman, and more. Namikawa also tried his hand at a host interview with ROLAND.
In the special program “Seiyuu 28 Hour TV” “Anime Love Galore! One Night Only Special Discussion”, a dream conversation between voice actor Daisuke Namikawa and businessman ROLAND, known as the “Emperor of the Modern Host World”, was realized. Namikawa admires ROLAND so much that he watches his videos almost every day. When ROLAND appeared in front of Namikawa, Namikawa was so excited that he exclaimed, “Wow, he’s the real deal! He’s so cool!” They immediately shook hands and started talking.
First, the two talked about their common interest, anime. Nowadays, ROLAND is known as an anime fan, but in the past, he had steered clear of anime due to his rebellious attitude towards his father, who is an anime song musician. Then, at his father’s invitation to watch “Animelo Summer Live (Anisama),” ROLAND discovered his “oshi” (favorite character) and became completely hooked on anime. Namikawa exclaimed in surprise, “What? He’s just a normal boy!”
Furthermore, when asked about his favorite anime, ROLAND gave an unexpected answer, “It may seem like I like battles and suspense, but I simply like anime with cute girls having fun,” to which Namikawa was again surprised, saying, “That’s so far from what I look like! It’s so far away!” After that, ROLAND’s love for anime continued, and he continued to talk about the anime he’s been into recently and “the anime that have influenced his life.”
In a sudden departure from their friendly chat, the two began talking about their own “failures.” They talked about the failure to become a professional soccer player, which they gave up everything to pursue, and the harsh reality they experienced after joining the world of hosts, hoping to “turn things around and become rich in one fell swoop.” As they talked about the energy that gave them the strength to bounce back from such failures, ROLAND commented, “People are more passionate about wanting to impress than they are about admiration.”
ROLAND continued, “If you ask me which fuel will take me further, I think the fuel of ‘regret’ and ‘the desire to get revenge’ will take me further than the fuel of ‘admiration’,” explaining how his rebellious spirit has helped him grow in confidence. Namikawa empathized, saying, “I’m exactly the same,” and added, “I don’t show it to others much, but I’m competitive. My fuel is my never wanting to lose to others or to myself. My energy comes from a strong competitive spirit.”
Afterwards, Namikawa also confessed something for the first time in his 40 years in the entertainment industry. “Watching Namikawa on screen, I get the impression that even if the role he was aiming for at the audition turned out to be someone else, he would interpret it as a difference of opinion,” to which Namikawa responded, “This is the first time I’ve said this, but I was so angry when I failed the audition!”. “To pass the audition, I bought the original work and read it all. I want people to think I’m a genius, so I give off the vibe that I haven’t read it, but in fact I practice a lot! And when I failed, I threw it all away. I’ll never read it again!” Namikawa showed a rebellious spirit that is usually not seen. ROLAND was surprised, but nodded in agreement and said, “I guess that’s how it is. But if you can’t think like that, you can’t survive in the competitive world of voice acting.”
Afterwards, as they are both “businessmen” who run companies, the two talked about the struggles of being a business owner and how they refresh themselves. Furthermore, Namikawa will be taking part in a serious interview with ROLAND to see if he can be hired as a host. Namikawa was enthusiastic, saying “I’ll do it without messing around!”, but ROLAND repeatedly criticized him, and there was also a scene where Namikawa tried to make a comeback with his secret weapon, his cool voice.
