It has been revealed that “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM,” whose special edition is currently being screened, has grossed 5 billion yen and attracted over 3 million viewers as of September 25, 2024. To commemorate this, an “illustration commemorating the 5 billion yen box office revenue and 3 million viewers” has also been released.
The “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series” is set in the era of “CE (Cosmic Era),” where humans born with genetically altered superior physical abilities and intelligence (Coordinators) exist, and humans born naturally (Naturals), and depicts the battle between Coordinators and Naturals. “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED,” which depicts the events from CE71, was broadcast as a TV anime from 2002 to 2003, and “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY,” which depicts the events from CE73, was broadcast from 2004 to 2005, and has since been developed in various media.
“Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” is the latest film in the series, which was released on January 26, 2024, about 20 years after CE75, as a theatrical version depicting a completely new story. It has surpassed
“Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space” (2.3 billion yen) released in 1982 to become the highest-grossing film in the Gundam series.
Starting September 20th, the first special edition screening of “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” has been released for a limited time, with over 500 new scenes added.
During the screening period, the special edition, which also includes an epilogue cut that can only be enjoyed in theaters, has been met with positive feedback on social media, with comments such as “It’s great to watch SEED with the sound of a movie theater” and “The epilogue cut was also great.”
Recently, the film’s box office revenue was 5,048,982,557 yen, and the number of viewers was 3,005,829. A commemorative illustration has also been released. The
illustration shows a powerful depiction of the Strike Freedom Gundam Type-2, the Infinite Justice Gundam Type-2, and the Black Knight Code Karla.
The first special edition screening of “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” will be showing until October 3rd. The second will be shown for a limited time of two weeks from November 1st to November 14th, and will have special screening gifts and an epilogue cut that are different from the first special edition screening.
