The movie “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” will be released on Blu-ray, 4K UHD-BD, and DVD on December 25, 2024. A new illustration by character designer Hisashi Hirai has been released for the corporate common purchase bonus, corporate limited edition, and corporate original purchase bonus. In addition, a limited-time preview video of all three drama CDs included in the Blu-ray Mighty Edition and Blu-ray special limited edition has also been released.
The “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series” is set in the era of CE (Cosmic Era), where humans born with genetically altered superior physical abilities and intelligence (Coordinators) exist, and humans born naturally (Naturals), and depicts the battle between Coordinators and Naturals. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, which depicts the events from CE71, was broadcast as a TV anime from 2002 to 2003, and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, which depicts the events from CE73, was broadcast from 2004 to 2005, and has since been developed in various media.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM is the latest film in the series, released on January 26, 2024, about 20 years after CE75, as a theatrical version with a completely new story. It has surpassed Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space (2.3 billion yen) released in 1982 to become the highest grossing film in the Gundam series. A “limited-time special edition” with over 500 updated scenes from the main story is currently on sale, and as of September 25, it has attracted 3 million viewers and grossed over 5 billion yen.
This time, newly drawn illustrations that will be used for the corporate common purchase bonus, corporate limited edition, and corporate original purchase bonus for the Blu-ray, 4K UHD-BD, and DVD have been released. The new illustrations by character designer Hirai Hisashi are different for each corporate. In addition to the main characters such as Kira, Lacus, Athrun, Cagalli, Shin, and Lunamaria, Yzak and Dearka are also in the lineup. Also, the illustration for the corporate common purchase bonus is a group illustration of a total of eight characters, including the main characters, Mu, and Murrue, so don’t miss this one either.
In addition, preview videos for the drama CDs “Escape for Two,” “Moonlight Walküre,” and “Neumann’s Logbook,” which will be included in the Blu-ray Mighty Edition and the special limited edition Blu-ray, have also been released.
The voice dramas are “Escape for Two,” which depicts a brief respite for Athrun and Cagalli as they work hard on their respective missions; “Moonlight Walküre,” which depicts the time of Agnes, Shin, and Lunamaria, who appeared in “SEED FREEDOM,” at the military academy; and “Neumann’s Logbook,” which is told from the perspective of Neumann, the Archangel’s famous helmsman. They can be listened to for a limited time on the Gundam official YouTube channel, “Gundam Channel.”
The novel and drama CD written by scriptwriter Goto Rio are only available on the Blu-ray Mighty Edition and the special limited edition Blu-ray. Fans should definitely check them out.
