After about a year since the first season, the second season of the anime “MF Ghost” began airing on October 6th. Katagiri Natsumu (voiced by Uchida Yuuma), who participated in the qualifying time attack for the second MFG race, “Lake Ashi GT”, provisionally placed 8th. When a character reminiscent of Fujiwara Takumi appeared in a flashback scene of Natsumu showing off his incredible drifting skills, fans’ excitement suddenly reached a fever pitch, with comments like “Fujiwara’s face isn’t on screen…!!” and “Show us Takumi’s face soon, we’re making them wait!”

Natsumuki participated in the 6th day of the qualifying time attack for the “Lake Ashi GT”. Soon after, he entered the death area known as the “falling white grim reaper”, or slippery trap, due to the slippery road surface caused by volcanic ash from Mount Fuji.
Aiba Shun (voiced by Ono Daisuke) orders him to slow down, but Natsumu responds, “I’ll adjust with my driving.” While the two wonder, “What does that mean…?”, Natsumu dares to drift on the slippery road surface, astounding everyone who sees it.
Then, a “attention flag” was lit up in Natsumu’s driving technique. Aiba was astonished, saying, “A attention flag for drifting?! Even I’ve never had it happen once in three years,” and MFG General Manager Uehiroshi Kamiyuki (voiced by Hosoi Osamu) also couldn’t hide his surprise, saying, “This guy is the real Takumi Fujiwara’s zero counter drift… The undefeated downhill ace of Project D has descended upon Lake Ashi and reigned supreme…”
After Natsumu finished the qualifying time attack in provisional 8th place after overtaking others in the death area, Aiba asked, “You’re amazing. Where did you learn to drift like that?” Natsumu then said, “I learned that from my academy teacher. My teacher is a drift master…” and began to talk about his memories with his academy teacher.
In Natsumu’s flashback scene, the academy teacher was next to Natsumu. However, his face was barely visible, and he was only seen from behind, which was frustrating for fans. Fans were excited and raised flags of interest on social media, with comments such as “Will his face not be shown?”, “It would be great if Fujiwara Takumi could just show his back,” “Will Takumi-sensei’s face be shown soon!!!,” “Isn’t this teacher a tofu maker?” and “Will Takumi appear soon?” Takumi Fujiwara is also the main character of “Initial D”. Coupled with Natsumu’s heartwarming reminiscences, many fans were moved to tears, with comments such as “This story will make you cry…”, “It grabs the tear ducts of an old man,” and “I’m already crying like a baby at this point…”.
The anime “MF Ghost” is based on the manga of the same name by Shuichi Shigeno, which is currently being serialized in “Weekly Young Magazine” (Kodansha), and is based on a street car racing battle. The story is set in the near future of “Initial D”, which depicts the “legend of the fastest car on the street” and has sold over 56 million copies, and the original comic has sold over 5.8 million copies. The first season of the anime began airing in October 2023.
Turn 13 “The Falling White Death”
[Synopsis]
Kanata’s attention flag is already on at Lake Ashi, one of MFG’s most difficult courses. The updated 86 shows its power even on the uphill sections. Even in the death area of the second race, where volcanic ash falls, also known as the slippery trap, Kanata’s momentum does not weaken. He clears the slippery road surface with drifting that puts even a rally driver to shame. Meanwhile, Beckenbauer, the winner of the previous race, is eagerly aiming to pass the qualifying round first.
