It has been announced that the Blu-ray and DVD of “Mononoke Karakasa: The Movie” will be released on December 18th. The first chapter of the movie, set in the Ooku, a place swirling with passion, will be released on a physical package already, and will be captivating with its overwhelming visual beauty. As an enclosed bonus, it will also include a “special booklet” that looks back on the main story, which was drawn with a huge number of cuts, and a “washi-style tack sticker.”
“Mononoke” is an anime that has enjoyed enduring popularity ever since it was first broadcast as a TV series in 2007. It was derived from the episode “Bakeneko” of the “Ayakashi” series, which recorded unusually high viewership ratings on Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” slot in 2006.
For “Mononoke the Movie: Karakasa,” a powerful staff has come together under the direction of series creator Kenji Nakamura to “rebirth” the “Mononoke” series as a movie set in the forbidden inner palace. The crowdfunding campaign for the “Mononoke Anime 15th Anniversary Project” raised about 60 million yen, far exceeding the target of 10 million yen, showing the continued high expectations of fans.
The Blu-ray and DVD, which are scheduled for release on December 18th, will include the main feature as well as bonus footage such as a stage greeting to commemorate the release, promotional footage such as special announcements and trailers, and the animated music video for the theme song, “Love Sick.”
