A live event commemorating the 15th anniversary of the release of the game “STEINS;GATE”, “STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE – ONE WORLD -“, was held at the main hall of Mori no Hall 21 in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. Miyano Mamoru, who plays the main character Okabe Rintaro, made his first live appearance for the game since 2012, and after the show, the new game “STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT” was also announced.
The last large-scale live event related to “STEINS;GATE” was the “Science ADV Live S;G 1010th ANNIVERSARY” held in January 2020, which was about four years ago. This time, seven members of the “STEINS;GATE” lab cast and four artists who have been singing songs from the series appeared and thrilled the audience.
MAGES. has held many large-scale live shows in the past, but this will be the first time they have focused on STEINS;GATE content alone. Furthermore, this will be Miyano, who plays the protagonist Okabe Rintaro, making his first appearance since the Science Adventure Live in 2012. He was originally scheduled to appear at a large-scale live event to commemorate the series’ 10th anniversary in 2019, but it was cancelled due to a typhoon, making this his first appearance at a live event in 12 years.
As the movie announcing the start of the show was projected on the screen, the audience’s expectations rose, and Kanako Ito appeared on stage and the performance began with “Skyclad no Kansokusha.” Speaking of this song, it was the opening theme of the Xbox 360 version released 15 years ago, and was also used as an insert song in the TV anime “STEINS;GATE,” the song that started the series.
As the song ended, the cast gathered on stage and moved on to the voice drama “Round Table of Deja Vu Reminiscences.” The game screen shown on the screen was a special version written by Naotaka Hayashi, the main writer of “STEINS;GATE,” for this voice drama.
The story was brought to us by Okabe Rintaro, who returned to 2010 after making repeated time leaps from 2024. According to Okabe, in 2024, the lab members were being kicked out of the building without question due to its deterioration. Okabe convenes a “round table conference” to try to discuss countermeasures to avoid this situation, but the lab members continue to carry on as usual. As the conversation leaves the audience feeling reassured, the story progresses while looking back on the past 15 years. Many ad-libs that were not prepared for the game screen are flying around, the hall is filled with laughter, and the meeting is dancing once again.
After the voice drama, the live performance started with Ito Kanako’s “Space Engineer,” the opening theme for the PSP version. Next, Ayumu (Zwei) sang two ballads, “LAST GAME” and “Lyra.” After finishing the song in a gentle atmosphere, Junjou no Afilia was called out, and the audience got involved in a “Wasshoi” call. When the stage became bright and colorful, Junjou no Afilia sang and danced to “La*La*La Revolution” and “Kindan Muteki no Darling,” livening up the stage with excitement.
Next up was Phantasm (FES voiced by Sakakibara Yui), who has a completely different worldview. She sang the TV anime’s ending theme “Tokijiru Juni no Meyaku” and the Xbox 360 version’s ending theme “Farfalla of Fate” with a mysterious yet powerful voice, captivating the audience with her worldview. Then, Imai Asami, who also appeared on stage for the reading drama and excited the audience, appeared as an artist. She sang the fast-paced second ending theme “World-Line” of the TV anime “Steins;Gate Zero” with a cool voice. It was a pleasant surprise as Imai’s appearance as an artist had not been announced.
Here, Ito appeared again and together with Imai, they shared their own stories about the influence of Steins;Gate. After a break, they introduced the band members who liven up the live performance with their music.
During Ayane’s solo stage, she performed “Encounter no Fetalitate,” the opening theme to the PS Vita game “STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram,” followed by “Phenogram,” the opening theme to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the same game, sweeping the venue with the deep bass of the band sound and her sweet, husky singing voice.
After all the artists had finished singing, Ito appeared on stage again. She sang “Fatima”, the opening theme of the TV anime “Steins;Gate Zero”, and “Hacking to the Gate”, the opening theme of the TV anime “Steins;Gate”. There was also a surprise that it was OK to take pictures of the stage with your smartphone only for this song.
The excitement was building and it seemed like the show would end there, but then Nippon Broadcasting System announcer Yoshida Hisanori, who was the MC, took to the stage. The cast was called back onto the stage. This was the start of the “STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE Special Act.”
この「STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE スペシャルアクト」では、事前にSNSで募集していたラボメンたち8名の名台詞の発表が行われた。各台詞は1位から3位まで発表され、今回出演している7名はそれぞれ1位の台詞を朗読で披露した。台詞の前後を含めた場面がラボメンたちの掛け合いによって再現され、ファンが選んだ名台詞のみならず、深い思いが込められた名場面が披露される朗読劇となった。
続いて『STEINS;GATE』関連情報の告知を挟み、アーティストたちが登壇して出演者全員がステージ上に揃った。そして、観客席を背に記念写真を撮影。迎えたエンディングでは、出演者を代表して宮野が挨拶をし、作中でおなじみ「エル・プサイ・コングルゥ」の掛け声とともに場内に金色のテープが舞い、ステージは終演を迎えた。
しかし、イベントはここでは終わらなかった。場内の照明が落ち、予告なくスクリーン上にムービーが始まる。スクリーンには見たことのない新規イラストが登場し、『STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT』のタイトルが映し出された。
本作は、10月15日で発売15周年を迎えた『STEINS;GATE』のキャラクターデザインを手掛けたhuke自身によって、現在のタッチにリファインされたキャラクターで新たに制作される新作ゲームとなる。グラフィックを一新し、ストーリーも一部追加要素が加わるようだ。発売は2025年予定で、対応機種は追って発表となる。
このほか、「STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE – ONE WORLD -」が開催された森のホール21のレセプションホールでは、「1日限りの大展覧会」も開かれた。これまでにゲームやアニメで描かれた200枚以上のイラスト展示をはじめ、大型のタイムマシンや主人公・岡部のスマートフォン、そして歴代のゲームパッケージ類や協賛各社の展示が勢揃いした。
イラストで15年の歳月を振り返りながらも、協賛各社による様々な展開で、まだ『STEINS;GATE』が動き続けていることが感じられる展示となった。ライブで新たに発表された『STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT』によってまた、新たな未来へとその展開は広がる。
