Happy Halloween! Today, October 31st, is Halloween Party Day.
It is said to have originated from the festival “Samhain” held by the ancient Celts in Europe, which was a religious event to celebrate the autumn harvest and drive away evil spirits. It was believed that the door to the afterlife would open and the spirits of ancestors would return. It has something in common with the Japanese “Obon” and the Mexican festival “Day of the Dead,” and it is a day that makes you aware of the connection between this world and the afterlife.
In recent years, it seems that the culture of celebrating Halloween has taken root not only overseas but also in Japan. Prior to this, the largest cosplay event in Japan, “Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2024 Powered by dwango”, was held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and attracted more than 160,000 visitors.
