In making this decision, Aoni Production began by saying, “We have had repeated discussions with Furuya Toru himself regarding the series of scandals involving him,” and concluded that they had asked Furuya to step down because “the incident has directly and significantly damaged the image of the work and the character,” and his request was accepted.
Furuya’s comment was also published, in which he apologized for his future appearances in “Detective Conan” and “One Piece”, explaining, “After careful consideration, and with a heavy heart, I have decided to step down from my roles as Amuro Toru and Sabo as the only way I can make amends to everyone involved in the series, the many fans who support me, the series, and the characters.”
Furuya is a member of Aoni Production after working for the Himawari Theatre Company and Haikyo. He is also known for his roles as Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam, Hoshi Hikaru in Star of the Giants, and Yamcha in the Dragon Ball series. Furuya also operated his own X (formerly Twitter) account, but this was also deleted by June 22nd.
