September 15th is “Sekigahara Battle Day.”

It is named after the Battle of Sekigahara, which broke out on September 15th, 5th year of the Keicho era (October 21st, 1600). The battle, which took place between the Eastern Army of the Tokugawa clan and the Western Army of the Toyotomi clan, ended with the victory of the Eastern Army, leading to the establishment of the Edo Shogunate.

There are many characters in anime that are based on the image of warriors or samurai. They come in a wide variety, from real warlords from the Sengoku period, wandering ronin, to modern people who admire the samurai way of life .

So Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who comes to mind when you think of a warrior or samurai character?”
following on from last year. We received responses from 437 people during the survey period from September 3rd to September 7th. The gender ratio was about 35 percent male, 55 percent female, and about 10 percent gave no response, with more females than males. In terms of age group, the majority were young people, with about 45 percent under 19 and about 20 percent in their 20s.
