It has been announced that a new anime project for the “Mobile Police Patlabor” series, “Mobile Police Patlabor EZY”, will begin in 2026. Along with this, a new teaser visual has been released. Ingram’s mechanical settings and scene cuts from the pilot film were also unveiled, and some information on the main staff, including JCSTAFF, which will be producing the animation, was also revealed.
“Mobile Police Patlabor” is a media mix project created by the unit “HEADGEAR”, which was formed by five creators, including Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, Akemi Takada, and Mamoru Oshii. Set in a near-future Tokyo where general-purpose humanoid work machines called Labors have become widespread, the series depicts the daily lives and exploits of the Special Vehicle Section 2, the “robot police” who confront a new social threat known as Labor crime.
The series began with six OVAs (Original Video Animations), later known as the “Early Days,” and a manga serialized by Masami Yuki at the same time. Since then, new developments have been announced one after another, such as movies and TV anime series. Furthermore, it has produced numerous works that transcend the boundaries of media, such as novels, audio dramas, and games.
In 2014, a live-action drama and film series, “The Next Generation Patlabor,” directed by Mamoru Oshii, was produced. In 2018, the series celebrated its 30th anniversary, with numerous exhibitions and events held to commemorate the occasion, which was a huge success.
The production of the new anime Mobile Police Patlabor EZY was announced in 2017, and a pilot film was released at an event in 2022. The project’s start date has now finally been decided as 2026. Along with this, information on some of the main staff, including JCSTAFF, who will be producing the animation, has also been revealed. The teaser visual that has already
been released has been revamped, featuring an Ingram in Mobile Police Patlabor EZY specs. We look forward to hearing more about the project while imagining the history of the Ingram, which has been used over the 30 years that the story has been told, undergoing repeated modifications.
In addition, it was revealed that the pilot film for Mobile Police Patlabor EZY will be shown during the revival screening of Mobile Police Patlabor The Movie, which began on September 20th by Filmarks, Japan’s largest review service for movies, dramas, and anime. At the revival screening, attendees will be given a “double A5 mini poster” of both Mobile Police Patlabor The Movie and Mobile Police Patlabor EZY, so fans should make sure not to miss it.
