“Oshi no Ko” is a TV anime based on the manga that depicts the entertainment world from a completely new perspective, created by the luxurious team of Akasaka Aka and Yokoyari Mengo, which has sold over 18 million copies. One day, Goro, an obstetrician-gynecologist working in a provincial city, has a “terrible” encounter with Ai, an idol of his “oshi” (favorite) “B Komachi,” who has a forbidden secret, and his fate begins to move.
The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2023, creating a buzz. The second season, which tells the story of Aqua, Kana Arima, and Akane Kurokawa, who have been confirmed to appear in the 2.5-dimensional stage adaptation of the work “Tokyo Blade,” began airing on July 3.
In the 23rd episode that aired last week, Aqua and Ruby land in Miyazaki, a place they both have connections to from their past lives. There, Ruby finds the body of the murdered Amemiya Gorou, resulting in a horrifying and shocking ending.
The 24th episode was a big topic even before it aired due to the bold time change. “It’s crazy to air it after a popular Sunday anime,” “Isn’t this too primetime during primetime?!” “It’s finally become a primetime anime…” and the show was attracting more attention than ever before.
The thrilling final episode begins with Ruby discovering the dead body of her beloved Goro. An interrogation scene is aired right away, leading to a comment about the impact of the broadcast time, “The difference in tone is so intense I can’t believe this is a Sunday anime…”
Naturally, the story of the discovery of the body from his past life reaches Aqua’s ears. Akane comforts the dejected Aqua and apologizes for getting him involved.
Akane continues, “Why are you apologizing, Aqua?” and “Aqua would be better off without me,” demonstrating her great detective skills as she somehow senses the darkness Aqua is carrying. She then decides to break up with him herself.
As Akane sheds tears and thinks of Aqua, she tries to withdraw, but Aqua is deeply moved. Wiping away her tears, he says, “My revenge is over,” and kisses Akane, saying, “Now it’s my turn to protect you.”
This kissing scene, which will undoubtedly become a famous scene in the future, has received comments from both actors such as, “When Akane cries, I want to cry too, so please don’t cry…” and “Aqua, you’re just too handsome.”
While the gloomy atmosphere continues, B Komachi heads to the MV shoot as scheduled. During the trip, Arima Kana complains in the car, “Shooting a MV on Kujukuri Beach in the middle of winter in cold clothes…” and viewers are comforted by her appearance, who comments like “It looks cold lol” and “She’s in a swimsuit!”
And so the music video shoot begins. Just before that, Ruby had come into contact with Tsukuyomi, a girl who has appeared in scenes before and who exudes a somewhat terrifying aura.
She tells her that the killers who killed Ai and Goro were a duo, and that there was another killer besides the man who stabbed Ai.
She resolves to kill the real culprit, saying, “I can’t forgive him. I’ll kill him no matter what it takes.” In place of Aqua, whose revenge has been completed, Ruby now has black stars in both of her eyes.
Combined with the power of the drawing, viewers were in a state of excitement, saying, “Not just one eye, but both eyes…? Does that mean she has a stronger desire for revenge than Aqua?” and “So both Ruby’s turned black…”
After the MV shoot was safely completed, Akane was in the hot springs when she reflected on her relationship with Aqua, asking, “Are we officially dating…?”, and how they had taken a step forward from being just a business couple. Kana appeared and stood there completely naked, but her body was covered in a lot of steam and was not visible to the viewers.
The ending finally came, and it seemed like the second season was finally over, but then the mysterious blonde man Kamiki Hikaru, who had appeared a few episodes earlier, finally appeared by name (in the ending credits). As
most viewers had expected, his voice actor was Miyano Mamoru, and he said to a woman who had fallen off a cliff, “Are you alive? I told you, watch your step.” The dying woman called out, “Murderer…” and behind her, the crows led by Tsukuyomi were yelling…
The second season has ended in a way that leaves viewers curious to see what happens next right up to the final episode, with a variety of reactions on social media such as “It looks like the theme will finally become about revenge in earnest,” “Kamiki Hikaru, uuuh, that voice lol,” and “I’ve read the original work, so I’ll say it, but it’s seriously going to be great from here on out.”
Episode 24, “Wish,” is currently streaming on ABEMA. It will be available on other streaming platforms in the future.
After the broadcast ended, it was already decided that the third season would be produced. A key visual was also released, depicting the characters Ruby and Aqua, who have now advanced to their second year.
