The all-new animated film “The Rose of Versailles” has been scheduled for release on January 31, 2025. In conjunction with this, character visuals were unveiled that tell the story of the lives of Oscar, Antoinette, Andre, and Fersen, who all lived their lives to the fullest in revolutionary France.

The Rose of Versailles, also known as The Rose of Versailles, is a masterpiece by Ikeda Riyoko that vividly depicts the love and lives of people trying to live their lives in revolutionary France. It has been serialized in Weekly Margaret since 1972, and has sold over 20 million copies. The original manga, which has garnered enthusiastic support from readers since its serialization, has become a social phenomenon in many ways, including being adapted for the stage by the Takarazuka Revue and for a TV anime, and has become a milestone in the world of girls’ manga.

The all-new anime film will be directed by Yoshimura Ai, known for “Ao Haru Ride” and “Cheer Boys!!”, and animated by MAPPA, known for “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “In This Corner of the World”. The cast includes Sawashiro Miyuki as Oscar François de Jarjayes, Hirano Aya as Marie Antoinette, Toyonaga Toshiyuki as Andre Grandier, and Kato Kazuki as Hans Axel von Fersen.

The release date has now been set for January 31, 2025, and the character visuals for the four protagonists, including Oscar Antoinette and Andre Fersen, have been unveiled. Each character visual is accompanied by a catchphrase that expresses the way each character lives in the turbulent times following the French Revolution, allowing viewers to reminisce about their stories of love and destiny.

Oscar François de Jarjayes, a beautiful woman dressed as a man and raised as a “son” of the Shogun family, is depicted brandishing a sword with a burning flame and the Bastille prison behind her, along with the tagline “Forward, follow your passion.” The beautiful figure of a woman who chooses her life with her own hands, overcoming her status and gender, and throws herself into the French Revolution is shown.

Marie Antoinette, the noble and graceful queen who came to France from neighboring Austria, is depicted with the tagline, “Love is cruel and beautiful,” and her glamorous life at the French court and her natural charm that draws people in. Although she was the wife of Louis XVI, she secretly harbors a love for Fersen, whom she met by fate, and stands there with a beautiful yet somewhat fragile figure.

Andre Grandier, a commoner who is Oscar’s servant and childhood friend, is depicted gazing into the distance as if he is looking at Oscar, with the tagline “I will protect you until the end of my life.” He supports Oscar, who serves as Marie Antoinette’s bodyguard as the commander of the French Royal Guard at a young age, and lives his life by her side as a good understanding friend.

The handsome and intelligent Swedish Count Hans Axel von Fersen expressed his determination to dedicate his love and destiny to Antoinette, along with the tagline, “Even if it is an unforgivable love,” and chose to live the life he had chosen. At a masked ball at the Paris Opera, he has a fateful encounter with Antoinette, who is growing increasingly lonely in a foreign court, and is tossed about by the love.

Mariko Oka, the character designer, said of this visual, “I arranged the four characters, each with their own unique charm, while keeping an eye on the balance so that everyone would look gorgeous. ” She also shared her thoughts about each character, saying, “Andre’s character tends to be simple because there isn’t much decoration, but I drew his gaze and expression to express his feelings for Oscar, quietly but passionately. Antoinette and Fersen wear costumes that aren’t in the main story. I’d like to draw Oscar and Andre dressed up someday. ”

It was also announced that movie ticket cards for this film will be released in stages starting from October 11th, with six different visuals and bonuses revealed. The “Character Visual Ver.” comes in four varieties, and uses visuals that tell the story of each character and their way of life – Oscar, Antoinette, Andre Fersen. They will be sold exclusively at cinema box offices from October 11th, and will come with a “Beautiful Rose of Versailles” A5 clear file as a bonus.

These will also come with special goods and other luxurious items that fans will love, so be sure to get your hands on the movie ticket with your favorite visual to prepare for the release.
