October 10th is “Futon Day.”
The day comes from the wordplay “fu (2) to (10) n,” which means “10” and is a double number. It was established by the All Japan Bedding and Sleeping Goods Association.
It’s finally the season where you can feel the coolness. You want to be careful not to be late because it’s too cold to get out of bed.
In anime, there are many characters who are habitual late-comers. There are many reasons for being late, such as not being good at mornings, not being punctual, or having a free-spirited personality.
So Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who’s the Late Character?”
following on from last year. During the survey period from September 30th to October 2nd, 364 people responded. The gender ratio was about 40 percent male, about 50 percent female, and about 10 percent gave no response, with slightly more females than males. In terms of age group, the majority were young people, with about 40 percent under 19 and about 25 percent in their 20s.
