“Voice Actors’ Night Out Friday [Fairouz Ai x Ueda Hitomi] #19” was broadcast on ABEMA from 10:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024.
[Video] The two have a blast talking about geek stuff
In this broadcast, Ueda Hitomi appeared as a substitute MC in place of Seki Tomokazu, who was absent due to schedule conflicts. In reference to Ueda’s special skill of “pounding rice cakes with a mortar,” they pounded rice cakes and talked while eating them in “The Season Has Arrived! Moon Viewing Talk,” and in “I Want to Sing Now! Best Song Karaoke!”, the two sang the songs they really want to sing now.
Hitomi Ueda, who Fairouz has come to trust as a “reliable friend,” appeared as a substitute MC for the broadcast. She is apparently so close that she has even visited Fairouz at her home, and the opening was a lively private chat.
In this broadcast, a segment titled “Moon Viewing Talk: It’s the Season!” was held. Following Ueda’s official profile listing his special skill as “Usutori mochi pounding (pouring water on the mochi and turning it over),” the two pounded mochi and talked while eating the mochi. Ueda, who used to have a mochi pounding contest with his family every year, commented, “I never thought this day would come!”, and the mochi pounding started right away. Ueda proceeded with the pounding with his usual skill, and Fairouz also enjoyed the pounding, saying, “This is fun! It’s good for relieving stress.” However, the shaping of the mochi afterwards turned into a disaster. Following the advice of “Ueda Sensei” that “If you put potato starch on it, it won’t stick to your hands,” the two tried shaping the mochi while covering it with potato starch, but while Ueda rolled it into a beautiful shape, for some reason the mochi stuck to Fairouz’s gloves and became sticky. “I want to give my boss Okamoto (Nobuhiko) some delicious rice dumplings as a present,” Fairouz said enthusiastically, but they just wouldn’t come together. “Why? They’re made from the same rice. I want to give my boss something delicious to eat,” Fairouz complained. Ueda couldn’t help but burst out laughing, saying, “That’s weird.” After that, the rice dumplings (?) were just a white lump. “I’m so sorry! I definitely want to eat these (Ueda’s rice cakes) too,” Fairouz said, but then she cutely smiled and said, “I worked hard on making them, so please eat them, Nobuhiko♡,” which caused the studio to erupt in laughter.
After that, the two of them talked about the designated topic. In “My secret that I haven’t even told my best friend!”, they talked about their “favorite type” that they hadn’t talked about yet, and then they got excited talking about topics such as “What do you think is amazing about Seki-san?” and “What kind of fashion would you like to dress each other in?”
In the section “Manga characters I fell in love with!”, the otaku talk got very lively. First, Ueda, who said “I’m not really into serious love”, confessed the only character he “fell in love with”. “It was Shinichi Maki from ‘Slam Dunk’!” he revealed. “He’s tough, but the main character Hanamichi told him he looked old, so he started letting his bangs down a little instead of combed back! I love that cute contrast.” Fairouz then revealed his “first love”. “My first love was Zeon from ‘Zatch Bell'” he revealed. “I met Zeon when I was in elementary school, and that’s how I became an otaku.” “I was in love with Zeon, so I went to Egypt in the middle of elementary school, so I couldn’t watch the anime in real time, and I cried almost every day. I would have video tapes sent to me from Japan and I would put them together.” Fairouz spoke passionately about the beginning of her otaku life. Ueda was impressed, saying, “Even when watching the play, it’s really clear that Fai-chan loves anime as a medium, and that kind of episode is at the root of it all.” Fairouz responded with a smile, “I’ve been an otaku since I was born.”
