The anime “Oshi no Ko” is based on a hit manga by Akasaka Aka and Yokoyari Mengo, which has sold over 18 million copies. The story begins when obstetrician-gynecologist Goro (CV: Ito Kento) is reincarnated as Aqua (CV: Otsuka Takeo), the son of his beloved idol Ai (CV: Takahashi Rie). After Ai is killed in front of his eyes, Aqua enters the entertainment industry to find the truth behind the incident and get revenge… The first season of the anime was broadcast in 2023, and the second season, which began in July 2024, will air its final episode on October 6th, and the production of the third season has been announced.
Since Ai’s death, Aqua has lived her life thinking only of taking revenge on the people who drove Ai to her death. The stalker who stabbed Ai took his own life immediately after the incident, but Aqua came to the conclusion that there must have been someone who guided the stalker to Ai’s side. Thinking it all together, she could not think of anyone other than her own father, who had conceived Ai. From there, Aqua approached the entertainment industry herself in order to find her father. She also decided to appear in the play “Tokyo Blade” because Ai was deeply involved with the “Lalarai” theater company.
Finally, Aqua discovers through a DNA test that she and Himekawa Daiki (voiced by Uchiyama Kouki), the star actor of the “Lalarai” theater company, share the same father. Aqua tells Himekawa that they are half-brothers. However, Himekawa reveals the shocking truth that her father was an unsuccessful actor named Uehara Seijuro, and that his mother, Himekawa Airi, had committed suicide together when Himekawa was five years old and was already deceased.
The target of his revenge had already passed away. Upon learning this, Aqua was at a loss for words. “So then… what should I do…” he asked, confused, but when he received a call from Arima Kana (CV: Han Megumi) and Kurokawa Akane (CV: Iwami Manaka), he was brought back to reality and thought, “Is it okay… is it okay now? I can be free and be happy like normal,” as he thought about being free from the things that had been binding him. At that moment, the “stars” shattered and disappeared from Aqua’s eyes, and she smiled calmly as if she had been liberated from a curse.
How will Aqua’s revenge story turn out?
