It has been announced that a permanent store of “Chiikawa Bakery,” which will sell a wide range of character breads that can only be purchased here, will have its grand opening on the 3rd floor of Tokyu Plaza Omotesando “Omokado” in the Harajuku/Omotesando area on October 29th. Along with bread, a large number of original goods will also be available.
“Chiikawa” is a manga by illustrator Nagano from X (formerly Twitter). It depicts the fun, sad, and slightly hard daily life of the always hardworking Chiikawa and her friends Hachiware and Usagi, as well as other unique characters.
A wide range of developments have been made, including merchandise, collaboration cafes, and corporate collaborations, and the first six volumes of the book “Chiikawa: Something Small and Cute” are currently on sale from Kodansha. In addition, a TV anime will be broadcast on Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi TV” from April 2022.
“Chiikawa Bakery” will have its grand opening on the 3rd floor of Tokyu Plaza Omotesando “Omokado”, and will be a permanent store of “Chiikawa’s Bakery” with a soft pink interior and a design that uses plenty of original illustrations. In front of the Chiikawa’s face-shaped entrance, there will be an impressive stove object with a long pink chimney. Inside the store, you will be greeted by characters including Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi.
Chiikawa Bakery’s bread will be made under the guidance of Junichi Sawada, representative of HIJ Library and owner chef of two bakeries, who will represent Japan in the decorative bread category at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie 2026, the world’s largest bakery competition, to be held in Europan, France in 2026.
The menu includes face-shaped bread filled with custard, chocolate, and caramel cream, soft French bread sandwiched with character face-shaped cookies and cream, cornet and face-shaped bread, and satisfying croquette burgers.
In addition, there will be a lineup of sweet breads, savory breads, and desserts, such as waffles, chestnut buns, and financiers, that are full of ideas and ingenuity. Another attraction is the playful and unique visual of the “Rou Bread” served in a bowl that resembles the ramen of “Rou” that appears in the work.
Don’t miss the original Chiikawa Bakery goods, which include trays, cookie tins, unglazed coasters, thermal and cool tumblers with wooden lids, one-push bottles, and even soft, chewy mascots of each character that look like bread.
