It has been announced that the manga “I Want to Eat Me, a Human Being” will be adapted into a TV anime and broadcast in 2025. In conjunction with this, a teaser visual and teaser PV have been released. It has also been revealed that Reina Ueda will play the main character, Hinako Yaotoshi, and comments have been received from Ueda, the original author Ai Naekawa, and the main staff.
“I Want to Eat You, Monster” is a manga by Sai Naekawa, currently being serialized in Dengeki Maoh and Kadokomi, depicting the beautiful yet heartbreaking encounter between a girl and a monster. A new girl-meets-girl story unfolds, starting with the encounter between Hinako, a girl who wishes to die, and Shiori, a mermaid who desires her flesh.
The teaser visual released with the announcement of the TV anime adaptation depicts a scene symbolizing the work, with a youkai’s hand reaching out gently to a girl lying in shimmering shallow water. Animation will be handled by Studio Rings, who has produced episodes of numerous TV series including “My Yuri is My Job!”, and this is their first series as prime contractor. Drawing on their track record in many production genres, they will depict a suspenseful drama of humans and youkai.
The teaser PV shows the calm sea and beautiful sunset of Ehime Prefecture, and the image of Hinako, a girl who wishes for death, sinking into the sea, represents her closed heart, just like the imagery of her mind. The story begins when Hinako meets a mermaid girl named Shiori during her daily life, but what will become of her wish? The voice of Reina Ueda, who plays Hinako, is also unveiled for the first time in this PV.
In addition, the original author, Naekawa, has sent in a special illustration and comment celebrating the anime adaptation. Ueda, who plays Hinako, and the main staff involved in the work have each expressed their enthusiasm. The latest 9th volume of the manga will be released on October 25th, and on the same day, “Dengeki Maoh” will feature the 19th anniversary commemorative issue, the December 2012 issue, on the cover, so keep an eye on the excitement for “I Want to Eat Me, Monster.”
