October 22nd is “Anime Day.”
It is a commemorative day that originated from the release of Japan’s first full-color feature-length animated film, “The Legend of the White Snake,” on the same day in 1958. It was established in 2017 as part of the “Anime NEXT 100” project.
There are many animation production companies in Japan, and we are sure that many of our readers have their own favorite studios.
Therefore, we conducted a survey project to collect messages of gratitude to your favorite anime production companies
. This time, in addition to “Anime! Anime!”, we received responses from readers of a wide range of websites, including the “movie/entertainment/celebrity x information” site “Cinema Cafe ,” the general game information site “Inside,” and the general automobile news site “Response” !
As a result, we received responses from 130 people during the survey period from September 30th to October 12th.
The gender ratio was about 35 percent male, about 60 percent female, and about 5 percent did not respond, with more females. In terms of age group, about 35 percent were 19 years old or younger, and about 15 percent each were in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
Here are some of the comments we received!
In this survey project, many messages were sent to studios that have released popular titles in recent years.
ufotable said, “We were shocked when we saw Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Not only was the visuals beautiful, but the intensity of the battles, the understanding of the characters, and everything else was wonderfully crafted, and we were completely drawn into the world of Demon Slayer. I’m sure it’s difficult to create something of this quality, but we will continue to wait forever for the completion of the Mugen Castle trilogy.”
About CloverWorks she said, “In ‘My Dress-Up Darling’ and ‘Bocchi the Rock!’, the characters’ expressions and movements are drawn with such detail that I felt as if the characters were really alive. I watch every episode with my heart pounding. By the way, my favourite character is Ijichi Nika from ‘Bozaro’!”
Doga Kobo commented, “I love ‘Oshi no Ko’ and the sparkle in the characters’ eyes is wonderful. The ‘STAR☆T☆RAIN’ live performance, the clash in acting between Arima Kana and Himekawa Daiki, Ruby’s dark fall, and baby Ruby in action were all really cute. I can’t wait for season 3.”
Regarding MAPPA , readers who chose titles from the 2020s stood out, saying, “I didn’t have the habit of watching anime before that, but MAPPA’s expression in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ really hit home. I naturally love the fast-paced main story, but the animation for the opening and ending credits is also wonderful, and the beautiful yet sad images really tore at my heart.”
The studio that first sparked my interest in anime also received a comment.
Regarding Kyoto Animation, he said, “When I was in the second grade of elementary school, I rented ‘K-ON!’ from a video rental store and was completely shocked. I still remember that. From then on, I watched a lot of anime, including KyoAni’s works, and now I’m a total anime otaku. Without Kyoto Animation, I wouldn’t be who I am today!”
PAWORKS commented , “Nagi no Asukara was the first anime that really touched my heart, and it completely changed my attitude towards anime. I used to enjoy watching The Eccentric Family with my family when I was little, and The Tomorrow of the Colorful World had beautiful use of colors. And I was so moved by Farewell, The Promised Flower of May, that I couldn’t stop crying and my nose running.”
Regarding MADHOUSE , he said, “I’ve been watching a variety of anime for over 20 years, but I’m ashamed to say that it was when I saw Overlord that I first became aware of the production company. When I looked into it after that, I realized that I had been hooked on works that MADHOUSE had produced for a long time, such as Trigun and Hajime no Ippo. I have some regrets, thinking that if I had become aware of the studio sooner, I may have been able to come across more works.”
One fan with aspiring careers in the industry also sent a message to Shaft, saying, “I fell in love with Shaft’s anime when I was in middle school because of the Monogatari Series, and I’m still fascinated by its unique worldview. My dream for the future is to work in anime production, and I fantasize about the day I might be involved in a Shaft production.”
