October 29th is Kimono Day.
The day is based on the Japanese pun “ii (1) wa (0) fuku (2) ku (9).”
Characters who like Japanese clothing often appear in anime. They may be characters from works set in the Edo or Meiji periods, involved in traditional Japanese performing arts such as Kabuki or Rakugo, or they may like comfortable clothing such as jinbei and zori sandals… Characters with a different atmosphere from Western clothing tend to leave a lasting impression.
So Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “What comes to mind when you think of ‘Japanese clothing’ characters?”
During the survey period from October 14th to October 18th, 470 people responded. The gender ratio was about 35 percent male, about 60 percent female, and about 5 percent gave no response, with more females than males. In terms of age group, about 40 percent were under 19 years old, and about 25 percent were in their 20s, making the majority younger.
