The second teaser trailer has been released for “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten,” the latest addition to the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series, scheduled for release in winter 2025. In addition, it has been announced that the three previous movies will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray, and that the movie “Rebellion: New Chapter” will be shown again.
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” is an original anime written by Akiyuki Shinbo, with a script by Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), character designs by Ume Aoki, and animation by Shaft. It tells the story of a magical girl born from a wish, starting with a mysterious encounter with Madoka Kaname, an ordinary second-year junior high school student.
The thrilling, unpredictable developments in the everyday lives of cute girls, and the world in which girls and magical girls live are depicted through the avant-garde visuals of Gekidan Inu Curry, which was in charge of Shaft’s visual expression and the other-worldly design, and the dramatic background music by Kajiura Yuki, who is in charge of the music, and have garnered high praise from a wide range of fields.
After the 12-episode TV series was broadcast in 2011, a two-part film compilation, “The Beginning” and “The Eternal” was released in 2012, and a completely new film, “Rebellion” was released in 2013. The latest film in the series, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten”, is scheduled to be released in winter 2025.
The second teaser trailer was released at the event “Aniplex Online Fest 2024” held on September 16th. It showed Madoka and Homura dancing and new characters, raising expectations for the official sequel to “Rebellion: New Beginnings” and the story of a new beginning.
It was also revealed that the three previous theatrical releases, “The Beginning,” “The Eternal,” and “Rebellion,” will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray on January 29, 2025 as a three-disc set that offers ultra-high definition images upconverted to 4K HDR and a new cinematic sound experience brought by immersive Dolby Atmos.
Furthermore, it has been decided that a revival screening of “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie [Part 3] Rebellion” will be held from October 25th to 31st. The screening theaters are Sapporo Cinema Frontier, Shinjuku Wald 9, Midland Square Cinema, T-Joy Umeda, and T-Joy Hakata, and visitors will be given “special postcards” on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition, the sixth character PV was unveiled featuring Ashley Taylor, who plays Amagi Sally, from “Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra,” a new app game scheduled for release in 2024. PVs for other characters from this game are scheduled to be released one after another in the future, so keep an eye out for them along with the anime series.
