It has been announced that an 18-episode anime series version of “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction,” the first animated film based on the manga by Inio Asano, will be produced, depicting a different ending from the film version. It will be included in the “GAGA★ONLINE STORE” limited complete box set, which will go on sale from December 4, 2024. Along with the announcement, a teaser video packed with highlights was also released.
“Dededede,” also known as “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction,” is a dystopian tale of two girls’ everyday youth based on the manga by Inio Asano, which has been serialized in “Weekly Big Comic Spirits” since 2014 and will be completed with 12 volumes in 2022. It tells the story of two girls enjoying their daily youth in a world where a giant spaceship, commonly known as the “mothership,” suddenly attacks the skies above Tokyo, and the seemingly hopeless abnormal situation gradually becomes part of everyday life.
As soon as the first chapter was released in theaters in March 2024 and the second chapter in May, the work was praised for its excellent plot twists and densely crafted story structure, and many people were touched by the “absolute” friendship between Kadode (CV. Ikuta Rira) and Ontan (CV. Ano).
The second chapter of the movie version ended with a shocking ending that was completely different from the original, with a sequence drawn by the original author Asano himself for the theater. The recently announced anime series will be a must-see for fans of the original, depicting an alternate world line of Kadode and Ontan 16 years later in a total of 18 episodes.
The teaser video released at the same time is packed with highlights of the anime series. It includes many popular scenes from the original work that were not included
in the movie version, such as the episode depicting the meeting between O-ran’s brother Hiroshi (voiced by Junichi Suwabe) and Yuminba, a high school girl who is about to take the university entrance exam, an episode about journalist Kate interviewing a mother and daughter living in the black smoke zone, and a powerful battle of robots rampaging freely in the devastated world after the “8/32” mother ship explosion.
In addition, it has been decided that a “One Night Only All-Night Screening Event for the Anime Series (all 18 episodes)” will be held in November as a venue for the first showing of the anime series. Details such as the date and speakers will be announced on the official website, so please look forward to further information.
The Blu-ray/DVD Collector’s Edition will be released as a luxurious 3-disc set, with a main disc for each of the movie’s prequel and sequel, and a bonus disc with various event collections and other video bonuses. Don’t miss the special sticker with a newly drawn illustration that will be included as a limited edition for the first production run.
And at “GAGA★ONLINE STORE”, a limited edition Blu-ray complete box (6 discs) will be sold, which will include the Blu-ray Collector’s Edition (3 discs) plus 3 discs containing the anime series version (all 18 episodes). This will come with a special sticker on a special outer case with a newly drawn illustration as a bonus. Also, a special edition set with an acrylic board and clear file (4 types) will be available as a limited edition for the first production run. Be sure to check out both versions.
