Singer-songwriter Sayuri, who sang theme songs for many anime titles such as “Ranpo Kitan Game of Laplace,” “My Hero Academia,” and “Lycoris Recoil,” passed away on September 20, 2024. She was 28 years old. The news was announced by her husband, Amaarashi, on her official website on September 27.

Sayuri made her major debut in 2015 with “Mikazuki,” the ending theme for the NoitaminA anime series “Ranpo Kitan Game of Laplace.” Since then, she has sung theme songs for many anime series, including “ERASED,” “Scum’s Wish,” “Fate/EXTRA Last Encore,” “Golden Kamuy,” “My Hero Academia,” “Sing Yesterday for Me,” “EDENS ZERO,” and “Lycoris Recoil.”

In March 2024, she announced her marriage to Amaarashi, who plays the male part in the mixed-gender music duo “Misekai.” Since July 2024, she has been diagnosed with functional dysphonia and has been on hiatus, and the news of her passing was reported on September 27th.

On Sayuri’s official Twitter account, Amaarashi announced, “We would like to announce this to everyone who has always supported Sayuri. Sayuri passed away on September 20th. She was 28 years old. The funeral was held only in front of her relatives and friends, in accordance with the wishes of the family. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the kindness shown to Sayuri during her lifetime, and would like to pray for her soul to rest in peace together with everyone.”

In Amaarashi’s X, he wrote, “She continued to fight her chronic illness and thought deeply about music until the very end. There is not much I can say, but this is an indisputable fact. I hope that you will continue to accept the love that Sayuri gave birth to, and if you do, I hope that you will embrace it and live your lives together.”
