The fall anime “Dandadan” will begin airing on the TBS and MBS networks at 12:26 a.m. on October 3, 2024. The first episode, “That’s the Beginning of Love,” was highly praised on social media for its animation, theme song, content, and casting. It was also the number one trending topic during the broadcast time.

“Dandadan” is an occult battle and coming-of-age story based on the manga by Ryu Yukinobu, which is currently being serialized on Shueisha’s manga magazine app “Shonen Jump+”, with a total of 3.2 million copies in circulation and over 440 million views.
The story depicts Momo Ayase, a high school girl born into a family of spiritual mediums, and her classmate Okarun Takakura Ken, an occult fanatic, as they encounter an overwhelming supernatural phenomenon that transcends their comprehension, and the two of them use the hidden powers and cursed powers they each acquire to challenge the supernatural phenomena that approach them.
The long-awaited first episode of the anime will begin airing on October 3, 2024. Even before the broadcast, social media was abuzz with excitement over the birth of a completely new anime, with comments such as “I can’t wait!”, “I can’t wait to see it in real time!”, and “I’m really looking forward to it!”
As soon as the broadcast started, the opening theme “Otonoke” by Creepy Nuts was performed. The melody, which directly incorporates the title of “Dandadan”, has been met with great praise from viewers, with comments such as “Isn’t the opening too good…?” and “Wow, Creepy Nuts are the best again.”
And so the main story begins. All of a sudden, Momo Ayase (Momo) finds out that her boyfriend, whom she describes as a “tough Ken Takakura,” is a loser, and the scene begins with her dumping him. This scene seems to condense Momo’s personality, and even the atmosphere of the film, into just a few seconds, and it got viewers excited, with comments like “What a sense of speed lol,” “The animation is great,” and “What a great character.”
Next up is the other main character, Okarun. He is quite fond of the occult, so Momo gives him the name “Occult-kun.”
His voice actor is Natsuki Hanae. His voice perfectly expresses the occult geekiness of someone who shouts a lot and is a bit scared, and he has been highly praised, with comments such as “Okarun’s voice is just too Okarun,” “It sounds exactly the same as when I read the manga…” and “It’s Hanae-kun, as expected lol.”
Momo and Okarun meet and end up proving the paranormal phenomena that they each believe in, so they decide to go to a “UFO spot” and a “haunted spot” respectively. As they explore
, a monster called “Turbo Granny” really appears in front of Okarun! Furthermore, an alien called “Selpo Alien” appears, and Momo is captured and her clothes are torn off, putting her in a big pinch.
Then Okarun appears, transformed like a monster. He has been cursed and transformed by the “Turbo Granny”. Although she has trouble controlling the Turbo Granny that has assimilated into her body, she manages to use her powerful powers to overcome the critical situation.
Both of them are caught up in “mystery” and admit to believing in ghosts and aliens. However, Okarun, who has been cursed, has to rely on Momo’s powers and feels guilty for putting him in danger. However
, when Momo finds out that Okarun’s real name is “Takakura Ken”, her eyes sparkle…
After the broadcast ended, it was the number one trending topic. It was also praised for the extremely high quality of the animation, especially the action, throughout the anime. There were so many comments
that it was impossible to pick them all out, such as “It’s really good…everyone should watch this anime”, “Every single cut is drawn with soul”, and “I’m a fan of the original work, and this is a perfect score of 10 billion, thank you”.
