From the manga “Oishinbo”, the rare gourmet “Kaibara Yuzan”, who has the greatest presence in the work, has been made into a figurine. Three types, a debut version, a cold Chinese noodle version, and a reconciliation version, based on the theme of “Kaibara Yuzan’s History”, will be available for pre-order from 9:00 PM on October 11, 2024 at Cyclone Joe Main Store.
“Oishinbo” is a cooking and gourmet manga written by Tetsu Kariya and illustrated by Akira Hanasaki. The story revolves around Shiro Yamaoka and Yuko Kurita, two cultural reporters from the “Tozai Shimbun” newspaper, and tells the story of how they solve the problems that various people have through food by creating the “ultimate menu.”
It has been serialized in “Weekly Big Comic Spirits” since issue 20 in 1983, and the total number of copies published has exceeded 135 million as of October 2020. The realistic depictions, which had never been seen in cooking manga before, were well received, and it was adapted into various media such as TV anime, TV dramas, and movies, contributing to the revitalization of gourmet manga and the gourmet boom in Japan.
Kaibara Yuzan first appears in the first volume, “Oto no Oto,” as Shirou’s father, a great artist who excels in calligraphy, painting, and writing, with a focus on ceramics. He is a rare gourmet who believes that food is also an art, and this has led him to run a members-only restaurant called the Gourmet Club. He has an
uncompromising, strict, and intense personality, and his presence in the story is enormous, with his feud with his son Shirou forming the axis that runs through the story.
The new “Oishinbo Kaibara Yuzan Figure” is a three-dimensional figurine of Yuzan based on the theme of “The History of Kaibara Yuzan,” and comes in three different versions: a First Appearance Ver., a Cold Chinese Noodles Ver., and a Reconciliation Ver.
The Debut Ver. comes with a “Debut Appearance Face” and a “Smirking Face”, the Cold Chinese Noodles Ver. comes with a “Cold Chinese Noodles Ver.” and a “Standard Face”, and the Reconciliation Ver. comes with a “Reconciliation Ver.” and a “Standard Face”. Each comes with two different heads, and
the heads are interchangeable, so you can recreate the scenes that unravel the history of Yuzan with your favorite facial expression.
The “Oishinbo Kaibara Yuzan Figure” is priced at 14,300 yen each, including tax. Pre-orders will begin at 9:00 PM on October 11th at the Cyclone Joe Main Store, with shipments scheduled to begin in late January 2025. For more details, please see each product page.
