The all-new animated film “The Rose of Versailles” will be released on January 31, 2025. It has been announced that Takeuchi Shunsuke will play Alain de Soissons, Eguchi Takuya will play Florian de Gelodel, and Irino Miyu will play Bernard Châtelet. Comments have also been received from each cast member.
The Rose of Versailles, also known as The Rose of Versailles, is a masterpiece by Ikeda Riyoko that vividly depicts the love and lives of people trying to live their lives in revolutionary France. It has been serialized in Weekly Margaret since 1972, and has sold over 20 million copies. The original manga, which has garnered enthusiastic support from readers since its serialization, has become a social phenomenon in many ways, including being adapted for the stage by the Takarazuka Revue and for a TV anime, and has become a milestone in the world of girls’ manga.
The all-new anime film will be directed by Yoshimura Ai, known for “Ao Haru Ride” and “Cheer Boys!!”, and animated by MAPPA, known for “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “In This Corner of the World”. The cast includes Sawashiro Miyuki as Oscar François de Jarjayes, Hirano Aya as Marie Antoinette, Toyonaga Toshiyuki as Andre Grandier, and Kato Kazuki as Hans Axel von Fersen.
More additional cast members have been announced. The cast members will play three characters who influenced the main character, Oscar. After learning of the hardships faced by the citizens of Paris, Oscar volunteers to join the French Guard, which serves as Marie Antoinette’s bodyguard, in order to protect the citizens, the monarchy, and the country, and then jumps into the French Revolution.
Alain de Soissons, a member of the guards whose sword skills are so impressive that even Oscar takes notice, is played by young and talented voice actor Takeuchi Shunsuke, who has played a variety of voices, from Olaf in “Frozen” to Jigen in “LUPIN ZERO”.
Alain is from a lower-class aristocratic family and was originally a second lieutenant who graduated from a military academy, but was demoted to the French Guard for punching a superior officer. However, he is loved by his fellow guards, and although he initially rebels against Oscar, who is a woman, he eventually joins her in the fight against the French Revolution.
And Florian de Gerodel, who served as Oscar’s adjutant when he was the captain of the Royal Guard, will be played by voice actor Takuya Eguchi, who has appeared in hit works such as the role of Loid Forger in “SPY×FAMILY” and the role of Dot Bullet in “Mashle”, and whose cool voice makes the characters shine.
Gerodel attracts attention in high society due to his handsome appearance and noble bloodline. Although he serves Oscar with loyalty and admiration, other feelings also begin to grow for him.
Finally, the role of Parisian newspaper reporter Bernard Châtelet will be played by Miyu Irino, who is well known for his refreshing voice and long career, known for his roles as Haku in “Spirited Away” and Takao Akizuki in “The Garden of Words.”
Bernard is also the person who gave Oscar the opportunity to understand the poverty of the citizens.
Each cast member has also provided a comment. Furthermore, a group of talented voice actors has been assembled, and the characters will surely have new voices that will bring new charm to the story.
