“Tokyo Ghoul” Hanae Natsuki is like a live-action version of Kaneki Ken! Hirose Alice is also excited by the quality of the exhibition

The Tokyo venue of the “Tokyo Ghoul EX.”, an “immersive” exhibition event for the TV anime “Tokyo Ghoul,” has been open since October 21, 2024. Prior to the event, Natsuki Hanae, who plays the protagonist Kaneki Ken, appeared at the opening ceremony. He posted a photo he took at the event on his X (formerly Twitter), and the famous manga-loving actress Hirose Alice responded to it.

“Tokyo Ghoul” is a TV anime series based on the manga by Ishida Sui that was serialized in “Weekly Young Jump”. Set in a world where man-eating monsters called “ghouls” exist, the series follows the protagonist Kaneki Ken, who becomes a half-ghoul after an accident, and gets caught up in the battle between humans and ghouls.

It was adapted into a TV anime series from July to September 2014, followed by “Tokyo Ghoul √A” from January to March 2015 and a new series, “Tokyo Ghoul:re,” in 2018. A project to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series’ broadcast will begin in March 2024, and “Tokyo Ghoul EX.” is being held as part of that project.

The opening ceremony was held on October 20th, one day before the Tokyo venue of this event opened, and Hanae Natsuki, the voice actor of Kaneki Ken, and Amamiya Sora, who played the heroine Kirishima Touka, appeared on stage. Inoue Yusuke (NON STYLE) also appeared on stage as a representative of the fans of this work, dressed as Tsukiyama Shuu, a character with overwhelming beauty, pride, and strong personalities.

On stage, the speakers shared their impressions of the Tokyo Ghoul EX experience they had already had the chance to try. Amamiya said, “Anteiku (the coffee shop) is a relaxing place, and although the exhibition has many scary scenes, the aroma of coffee was in the air and Anteiku really helped me out,” and seemed to have enjoyed the exhibition very much.

Hanae also mentioned the immersive theater, where visitors can experience the fight between Kaneki and Yamori, saying excitedly, “The whole place becomes a screen, and the scene of Kaneki being tortured is projected onto it, but the sense of realism with the headphones is incredible!”

Hanae himself recreated the scene, taking on the role of Kaneki. He posted a photo of himself on his X account, sitting with his head bowed in a chair placed in the center of the same background set as in the TV anime.

When asked about a scene that made a lasting impression on him, Hanae reflected, “In the final episode of the first season, there’s a scene where Kaneki is tortured by Yamori and wakes up. It’s a painful scene where he is constantly crying and screaming, so it’s still stuck in my mind. Even when I had difficult jobs after that, I would think to myself, ‘Tokyo Ghoul was harder,’ and it gave me strength and made me stronger.”

The scene in question was a turning point for Kaneki Ken, and is an important episode that continues to be very popular with fans.
Hanae himself also found it memorable, and his perfect live-action reenactment has been well-received on social media. “Just watching it brings back memories…! I’m getting scared…!!” “It’s so real, it’s Kaneki!!!!!” “It’s definitely Kaneki… the best…” and many other emotional comments have flooded in.

The one who responded to this must-see photo was actress Alice Hirose. She has publicly declared herself a fan of Natsuki Hanae on her own account, and the two often talk about each other on their own accounts.

Hirose was so impressed with the quality of the photo that she posted it in quote form, asking, “Can I use this as my wallpaper?” Her unchanging love for Hanae has drawn comments from fans such as, “Hanae Natsuki is a hardcore otaku, I love Alice-chan,” and “Hanae-kun is such a funny fan.” It’s interesting to see whether her wallpaper will be Kaneki Ken, played by Hanae Natsuki.

Please note that you will not be able to sit on chairs at the venue. Hanae wrote, “I got special permission to take the photos.”

“Tokyo Ghoul EX.”, an immersive experiential exhibition event for the TV anime “Tokyo Ghoul,” is being held in Tokyo at the Terada Warehouse G1 Building from October 21st to December 1st. The Osaka venue will be held at “VS.” in Gran Green Osaka from December 14th to December 29th. For more details, please visit the official website.
