“Pokemon” Lucky is hard to catch! A short animation recreating memories of “Red and Green” has been released ♪ Kino Hina and Chiba Shigeru appear

The latest installment of the Pokemon short animation series POKETOON, “Let’s Play Tag at a Lucky Safari!?”, has been available on the official Pokemon YouTube channel since October 23, 2024. It was born from the desire to try a homage work that focuses on a part of the gameplay experience of the Pokemon Red and Green games, and the cast includes Kino Hina and Chiba Shigeru.

The “POKETOON” series is a short animation series that focuses on one Pokemon per work, maximizing its charm with original stories and diverse art. Starting with “Zuruggu and Mimikkyu” in 2020, the eight works released on YouTube have been viewed more than 82 million times worldwide as of September 4, 2024.

The latest installments of the series began screening for eight consecutive weeks on September 18, 2024. As with the previous series, in addition to the four horizontal anime works, four easy-to-enjoy vertical anime works are being developed. Every Wednesday at 6 p.m., one of the horizontal or vertical works is released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel, Instagram, and TikTok, livening up this fall.
In addition, as a new initiative in this series, music tie-ups have been implemented for the ending songs of the four horizontal works. Each song is a completely original song written by each artist specifically for the anime, further deepening the worldview of each work.

The latest work, “Lucky Safari Tag!?”, begins with Meg, who is spending her summer vacation in the lush Safari Zone where many Pokemon live, meeting “Lucky the Hat”, who no one has been able to catch for many years. It seems that Meg’s uncle has a connection with the mysterious Lucky, but what happened in the past? The plot is about that.

This video was born from the desire to try to create a homage work that focuses on a part of the gameplay experience of the Pokémon Red and Green games. In the game, Lucky, who appears in a facility called the “Safari Zone” rich in nature, is known as a Pokémon with a low encounter rate, and even if you do encounter one, it is difficult to catch and it quickly runs away. Taking
inspiration from the description of Lucky’s Pokédex that he is “fast at running away” and the fact that it is difficult to hit him with a Pokéball in the game, the video actually visualized the gap between Lucky’s appearance and physical ability, aiming for a work that anyone can enjoy. Another highlight is the addition of a family drama that spans generations and an emotional development surrounding Lucky.

In addition, the song “Lucky Dance” written by the popular artist Daisuke Fujiwara for this film vividly colors the film. The unpleasant things that happen in daily life may actually just be “pranks” by the good luck fairy who wants your attention. The playful lyrics beautifully express the charm of Lucky in this film. In conjunction with the release, comments were also made by Hina Kino, who plays Meg, Shigeru Chiba, who plays Bosley, and director Haruka Fujita.
