Masako Nozawa also gives a congratulatory comment! Toei Animation x Saudi Manga Productions’ “Asatir 2” premiere screening held [Report]

The anime “Asateer 2: Tales of the Future”, co-produced by Manga Productions, a leading Arab country IP management and production/distribution company for anime, manga, and games, and Toei Animation, will be broadcast on TV Tokyo affiliates every Sunday from 7:00 am starting November 3, 2024.
On October 28, a premiere preview screening was held in Tokyo to commemorate this, and as a surprise on the day, a special comment video from Nozawa Masako, who plays Grandma Asma, was also screened.

“Asateer 2: Tales of the Future” is a new anime that is the second season of “Asateer: Tales of the Future” released in 2020. “Asateer” means “old tale” in Arabic. Season 1 was broadcast on more than 40 distribution platforms around the world and recorded more than 100 million views.

“Asateer 2: Tales of the Future” depicts a family living in Saudi Arabia in the near future. The story begins when the family of a sixth grade girl named Maha moves to a floating city called “Oxagon” in NEOM on the west coast of Saudi Arabia.
Maha lives happily with her younger brothers Ryan and Sultan, and a cat-shaped robot named Anis, but the three often get into trouble. At such times, her beloved grandmother Asma tells her a wonderful Arabian folk tale. From these stories, Maha and her siblings learn important things and take action on their own… that’s the plot.

The premiere screening, held at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi, was attended by many people, including the staff and cast involved in the anime’s production, partner companies in Japan and the Middle East, and embassies of Middle Eastern countries, and was an opportunity to celebrate the broadcast of the second installment of the popular anime series, co-produced by Saudi Arabia and Toei Animation, on terrestrial television.

The day began with a greeting from Manga Productions CEO Isam Bukhari, followed by Toei Animation advisor Shinji Shimizu, who participated in the anime production as an executive producer, and Manga Productions producer Aljijakli Nour. The first episode of “Asateer 2: Tales of the Future,” which took more than four years to produce, was then screened.

As a surprise, a special comment video from Masako Nozawa, who plays Grandma Asma, was also shown. Afterwards, Naomi Ozora, who plays the main character Maha, gave a speech wearing an abaya, a traditional Saudi Arabian dress. Sachiko Watanabe, who sang the opening and ending songs of the anime, also performed a live performance of the opening song wearing a traditional black abaya.

The anime “Asateer 2: Tales of the Future”, jointly produced by Manga Productions and Toei Animation, will be broadcast on TV Tokyo affiliates every Sunday from 7am starting November 3rd.
