Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi from “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion” have been made into figures as part of the “Japanese Doll Series,” a collaboration between Furyu’s high-quality hobby brand “F:NEX” and long-established doll store Yoshitoku. Pre-orders are now being accepted on the hobby e-commerce site “FURYU HOBBY MALL” and elsewhere.
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” is an original anime written by Akiyuki Shinbo, with a script by Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), character designs by Ume Aoki, and animation by Shaft. It tells the story of a magical girl born from a wish, starting with a mysterious encounter with Madoka Kaname, an ordinary second-year middle school student. The
unpredictable and thrilling developments in the everyday lives of cute girls, and the world in which girls and magical girls live are depicted by the avant-garde visuals of Gekidan Inu Curry, who were in charge of Shaft’s visual expression and other-worldly design, and the dramatic background music by Yuki Kajiura, who is in charge of the music, and have garnered high praise from a wide range of fields.
After the 12-episode TV series was broadcast in 2011, a two-part film compilation, “The Beginning” and “The Eternal” was released in 2012, and a completely new film, “Rebellion” was released in 2013. The latest film in the series, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten”, is scheduled to be released in winter 2025.
The new “Yoshitoku x F:NEX Kaname Madoka -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure” and “Yoshitoku x F:NEX Akemi Homura -Japanese Doll- 1/4 Scale Figure” are figures of Kaname Madoka and Akemi Homura from this work, which are part of the “Japanese Doll Series”, a collaboration between “F:NEX” and the long-established doll store Yoshitoku. The costumes were made by doll artist Uyama Ayumi, and are finished in a Japanese-Western style that seems to retain the appearance of the characters when they transform into magical girls.
Instead of a juban (undergarment), the outfit is inspired by a blouse and long skirt, with an abundance of lace around the collar and hem. The gorgeous brocade obi and elegant obi fastener with pearl-like decoration create a gorgeous yet calm and beautiful look.
Additionally, the fabric of the furisode portion is dyed using the “kata-yuzen” technique. Madoka’s is based on pink, with vibrant Western-style roses incorporated into traditional Japanese yuzen, creating a design that is both elegant and glamorous. Homura’s is based on deep purple, with a design featuring a variety of flowers and butterflies, creating a glamorous yet subdued atmosphere. The flow of the dyeing is expressed in the clothes worn by both characters.
And to add an accent to the gorgeous furisode, the obi fabric is made of brocade, a traditional fabric woven with gold and silver threads and gold and silver foil in exotic and elegant patterns, in different colors for both Madoka and Homura. The high density weave gives it a glossy texture, and although it is small, it has the same thickness and vivid colors as an actual obi fabric.
The price is 198,000 yen each including tax. They are made to order and the reservation period is until December 9, 2024. They are scheduled to be released in December 2025. There is also a reservation plan for a set of two available exclusively at “FURYU HOBBY MALL”.
