New stills released of live-action film “Cells at Work” featuring Red Blood Cell (Mei Nagano) and White Blood Cell (Takeru Sato) in action!

The live-action film “Cells at Work” will be released on December 13, 2024. This time, new stills have arrived showing the “Cells at Work” inside the body of a healthy high school girl, Hibiko Urushizaki, played by Mana Ashida. In addition, it has been revealed that the long-awaited second round of movie tickets will go on sale on October 11.

The original work of “Cells at Work” is a manga serialized in Kodansha’s “Monthly Shonen Sirius” by Akane Shimizu, which attracted much attention for its innovative and unique setting of anthropomorphized cells. In 2017, it was selected by the French newspaper “Le Monde” as part of its “Recommended Books for This Summer” list, attracting attention not only from within Japan but also from around the world. The boom further heated up with the anime adaptation in 2018, and the series has become a mega-hit with a total circulation of over 10 million copies.

This film is based on Shimizu’s “Cells at Work” and the spin-off “Cells at Work BLACK” supervised by Shimizu and produced by Harada Shigemitsu and Hatsugaya Issei, and will be the first live-action film in the series to depict the “human world.” It will depict the “world’s smallest story” that takes place inside the human body on the largest scale in Japanese cinema.

This time, new stills of the film have been released, showing the “Cells at Work.” The workplace where the cells work at full capacity and one of the settings for the film is the body of a high school girl, Hibiko Urushizaki (Mana Ashida), who has a serious personality and healthy lifestyle.

Having lost her mother at an early age, she lives with her father Shigeru (Sadao Abe). While attending high school, she devotes herself to housework and worries about Shigeru’s health, who lives an unhealthy lifestyle. The inside of Higo’s body is a bright and lively space with a European atmosphere, embodying her vitality. There, red blood cells, white blood cells (neutrophils) and various other cells work day and night to protect her health.

In the newly released stills, along with the inside of Higo’s body, you can see the red blood cell (Nagano Mei) dreaming of the day she will become a full-fledged adult, and the white blood cell (Sato Takeru) using a device called a “receptor” attached to his hat to detect bacteria that have entered the body.

Other images include red and white blood cells (neutrophils) unable to move inside colorful spheres, killer T cells (Yamamoto Koji) fighting bacteria, NK cells (Naka Riisa) watching over bacteria with a weapon in hand so they can fight at any time, macrophages (Matsumoto Wakana) preaching to the red blood cells, a commander with a big smile on his face for some reason, helper T cells (Sometani Shota), and platelets (Mykapyu) working hard with their small bodies, showing us the cells working lively. However, in the film, the bacteria that are trying to invade the body start to move… What kind of work will the cells do in Higo’s body?

Furthermore, from October 11th, the second round of Mubichike cards will go on sale at cinemas nationwide (with some exceptions) and online. As a purchase bonus, the card will come with an original wallpaper (for smartphones) that can be downloaded from the QR code printed on the face of the ticket, and Mubichike online ticket buyers will receive an original Mubichike digital card after viewing the movie. Don’t miss this opportunity to get one in preparation for the release. For more information, check the movie’s official website.
