The live-action film “Cells at Work” will be released on December 13, 2024. This time, new stills have arrived, showing Rihito Itagaki, Ryo Kato and other “cells” trembling inside the body of an unhealthy father played by Sadao Abe. A banner visual featuring all 17 cast members has also been released.
The original work of “Cells at Work” is a manga serialized in Kodansha’s “Monthly Shonen Sirius” by Akane Shimizu, which attracted a lot of attention for its innovative and unique setting of anthropomorphized cells. In 2017, it was selected by the French newspaper “Le Monde” as one of its “Recommended Books for This Summer” list, attracting attention not only from within Japan but also from around the world. The boom further heated up with the anime adaptation in 2018, and the series has become a mega-hit with a total circulation of over 10 million copies.
This film is based on Shimizu’s “Cells at Work” and the spin-off “Cells at Work BLACK” supervised by Shimizu and produced by Harada Shigemitsu and Hatsugaya Issei, and will be the first live-action film in the series to depict the “human world.” It will depict the “world’s smallest story” that takes place inside the human body on the largest scale in Japanese cinema.
This time, new stills from the film have been released, showing the cells at work in the body of Shigeru (Sadao Abe), the father of the key character, high school girl Hibiko Urushizaki (Mana Ashida), who lives a healthy lifestyle.
Shigeru’s body is a harsh working environment, as he is unhealthy and unhealthy towards his daughter. In the midst of their daily grind, the rookie red blood cell (Rihito Itagaki) and his senior red blood cell (Ryo Kato) face an unprecedented crisis in their anus, and their expressions stiffen in a still.
Scenes from the human world are also shown, including scenes from Shigeru’s everyday life, such as when he rushes to the toilet only to find it fully booked, and a happy father-son interaction with Higo, who is concerned about his father’s health.
The photos also show the close relationship between Hiku and Takeda-senpai (Kato Seishirō), whom she admires and whom she has a crush on, making the cells unable to help but watch in bated breath.
In addition, a banner visual was also unveiled, showing all 17 characters, including cells, bacteria, and humans, played by the main cast. This impressive image will be displayed in theaters across the country.
