“Nigejou no Wakakunin” is a historical spectacle based on a manga currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” by Matsui Yusei, who is also known for “Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro” and “Assassination Classroom”. It depicts the story of Hojo Tokiyuki, the sole survivor of the Hojo clan, as he makes his way through a turbulent world after the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate. The TV anime was directed by Yuta Yamazaki (the kanji for 崎 is pronounced “tatsusaki”), who served as assistant director on “Wonder Egg Priority”, and animated by CloverWorks (Bocchi the Rock!, etc.). The series was composed by Yoriko Tomita (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru), and character design was by Yasushi Nishitani (chief animation director on “Pokémon the Movie: Coco”), weaving a piece of history with beautiful and powerful images. The first season will air from July to September 2024, and the production of the second season has been decided.
The new “Itai-in” designs feature characters from the series, and will be released in two volumes, with a total of 29 designs. The first series includes 16 designs, with two of each of the eight characters.
