Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of Revenge, a new original anime based on Mobile Suit Gundam, will be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix from October 17th. At Geeked Week 2024, the first four minutes of the film, in which the protagonist’s Zaku descends from the sky, were shown for the first time. In addition, previously unreleased characters and mecha were also revealed.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of Revenge is a new original anime series for global distribution, consisting of 6 episodes of 30 minutes each, focusing on the European front during the One Year War, the setting of the first Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam. 11 months after the outbreak of the war, one of the bases under Zeon occupation in Eastern Europe is seized by the Federal Army, and the story follows the exploits of Solari and the Red Wolf Squad, a mobile suit platoon that has just come down from space and joins a mixed battalion heading to recapture it.
The production will use Unreal Engine 5, in collaboration with Sunrise and SAFEHOUSE. The screenplay will be written by Gavin Highnight, whose work includes the anime series Tekken: Bloodline, Transformers: Cyberverse, and Star Wars: Resistance, and the director will be Erasmus Brosdau, whose work includes the anime series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, the games Star Citizen, Rise: Son of Rome, and the Crysis series.
The first four minutes of the film were released on Day 1 of Netflix’s real-life and online festival “Geeked Week 2024,” which is being held for four days from September 16th. The realistic background depiction of the One Year War and the European front was realized by “Unreal Engine 5.” The film begins with a tense opening scene in which Zeon soldiers walk through silent ruins, and then transforms into a “battlefield” where fierce battles with the Earth Federation Forces are unfolding.
Then, from the sky, the Red Wolf Corps’ “Zaku II F type” begins to descend… and so the story of the protagonist, Solari, begins. How will Solari face the “white devil” of the Earth Federation Forces that appears before her? The whole story is becoming more and more interesting.
Furthermore, new characters and mecha were also revealed. In addition to the members of the Red Wolf squad led by the protagonist Solari, Niland LeShawn, Reed Gelfi (Chavs), and Kayle Zavaleta, who appeared in the opening video, new members of the Principality of Zeon, Ander Heaton, Hayley Arfun, Alfie Zydos (Gearhead), and UMRC doctor Ony Kasuga, who Solari will meet, were also shown. The mechas revealed were
the Zaku II F (LeShawn’s), Zaku II F (Chavs’s), Zaku II F (Kale’s), Gouf Custom, Zaku Tank, GM, and Ground Assault Guntank B.
In addition, to commemorate the start of the worldwide exclusive distribution on Netflix on October 17th, the official Gundam YouTube channel “Gundam Channel” has decided to release all episodes of “Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO” and “Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team” in one go. These will be released for two consecutive weeks on October 5th and 12th.
The three works in the “MS IGLOO Series,” including “Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: Secret Record of the One Year War,” which was drawn in full 3D CG about 20 years ago, depict the harsh “One Year War History” of Gundam from both the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation sides. The works also feature the “Zaku II” and “Land Assault Guntank,” which also appear in “Requiem for Revenge.” By watching them together, you can also experience the transition of the Gundam series CG animation from the Heisei to the Reiwa eras.
Furthermore, “Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team,” which is set in Southeast Asia during the One Year War, tells the story from the perspective of a young lieutenant in the Earth Federation Forces who pilots a “Gundam” with a design reminiscent of the “Gundam EX” that also appears in “Requiem for Revenge.” The battle with the “Gouf Custom” is one of the highlights. In addition to the battles between mobile suits, the story woven by the characters is also popular, in which the protagonist meets a female pilot of the Zeon forces and they struggle to survive.
