It has been decided that “Nosakarabo Reading Echoes ‘Fiend/Friend in 20faces'” will be performed, starring a star-studded cast of voice actors including Koichi Yamadera, Kappei Yamaguchi, Kazuhiko Inoue, Akio Otsuka, and Yuki Kaji, as well as Daisuke Sakuma. The Tokyo performance will be held at Theater Milanoza in Tokyo from January 30 to February 2, 2025, and the Osaka performance will be held at Cool Japan Park WW Hall in Osaka from February 6 to 9.
“Nosakara Lab Reading Echoes ‘Fiend/Friend in 20faces'” is a reading play based on the first work, “The Phantom Thief Twenty Faces,” from the “Boy Detectives Series” by Edogawa Ranpo, who is said to be the father of Japanese detective novels. The story depicts Nosakara Lab’s first original story centered around original characters, including “Kogoro Akechi,” one of Japan’s three greatest detectives, his apprentice “Yoshio Kobayashi,” and the great thief “The Phantom Thief Twenty Faces” who confronts the two.
The production will be directed and organized by Nosaka Minoru, the head of Nosaka Lab, a theater company that specializes in mystery plays, and a director who has worked on such profound works as “Agatha Christie’s Works” and the “Kousuke Kozu Series,” as well as a skilled director of situational comedies with detailed plot twists. The script will be written by Hideaki Sugai, the leader of the theater group “Mo’xtra,” who is also active in writing the script for the New National Theatre’s “My One Month.”
In addition, Yamadera Kouichi and Yamaguchi Kappei will play Endo Heikichi, the legendary thief and master of disguise known as “The Fiend with Twenty Faces,” while Inoue Kazuhiko and Otsuka Akio will play the detective Akechi Kogoro. Kaji Yuki will play Kobayashi Yoshio, Akechi’s excellent assistant.
Furthermore, the original character of this work, a kind-hearted, tearful and compassionate police officer who is torn between Akechi and Twenty Faces, who is the key to depicting a new side of the Fiend with Twenty Faces, will be played by Daisuke Sakuma, who is active in movies and variety shows as well as a voice actor. Comments have arrived from director and writer Nosaka, as well as the cast members Yamadera, Yamaguchi, Inoue, Otsuka, Kaji and Sakuma regarding the decision to perform the play.
